The challenge of not knowing the map you are about to drop in encourages people to build mechs that are more versatile as opposed to the FoM. Although I do think there should be a queue of some kind. It is VERY rare that a battle takes place in just a completely random location. It just doesn't happen often. Battles are fought at strategic locations, ambushes, etc. IN order to replicate that I would have come up with a queue system where both sides pick 2 maps and one of the four is randomly chosen. You could weight attacker versus defender, planet locale, etc. You could also limit the type of map depending on the planet the battle is being fought on. A frozen moon isn't going to have an active volcano on it. I am hoping we will see something a little more akin to this if we get to the cw phase

Regarding pilot suits vs. near naked MechWarriors: the US was largely colonized by fanatical Puritans and the majority of the Bible-thumping contingent still doesn't see the contradictions inherent in a philosophy that maintains humanity was created in God's image but also maintains that the image is taboo. What do you expect? Some of us don't care, but some of us do. We ALL have money that's worth the same, however, and so IGP would be completely stupid NOT to do what they did. It was a good decision.
Ima have to disagree with you. This is the country where Paris Hilton appears in bikini burger ads on primetime television. Sex sells. I bet PGI's highest selling cosmetic item will be the bikini mech pilot model. Look down at that start up sequence, boys...

Will add to the various Therma posts.
Others have posted about the absurdity of a 'hot' map having any real effect at all on mechs that have heat sinks a 1000 years on the future that can dissipate heat from a fusion reactor and weapons generating thousands of degrees of heat - but cannot handle air temperature lower than that of boiling water.
Add in long walks around mountains which for slower non-jump jet mechs is AWESOME FUN!
Add in base capping.
Add in a middle slaughter circle that whoever gets there a few seconds faster than the other team can uttterly dominate then - or else to avoid it you have to spend 2 minutes going around a giant mountain.
It is like a map designed by devs to grief players - I mean who would think this was fun in any way? Except for the 2 light mechs that run and start base capping - forcing people to turn around and begin a long slog back over annoying terrain - because that is fun eh!
The new map is fun - and has zero of the features that everyone hates so much about Terra Therma. So why not just take it out entirely? Since making people hate playing a game does not seem like a good long term strategy.

Yup the harder the better, no more "everyone gets a trophy" socialist {Scrap}. Darwin said it the best it is not he is the strongest but he who can adapt the best that wins (of course I paraphrased )
Another great sage.. "damn I look good.. come get some" Duke Nukem
and then there is ME! - "For beer and bacon"

Monkey is the Great Sage, get your facts right
I guess op wants to alpha LP lasers to victory
Terra Therma wear these and stay cool

Clearly this map needs a raid boss in the middle of the map. That lava pit screams of it.

This map gets better the less idiotic your team is. If you have a PUG full of steering wheel underhive death marchers, your team will march to the doorway of the volcano and stand there until they are dead. And then ***** about how hot the map is, because they couldnt fire their 5 ML alpha across the entire volcano to the other derps standing in he doorway across the way(like 650M) the required 150 times to core them without overheating. Then they get hit by the guy over there with the gauss rifle and the LRM mech(because they cant go backwards through their whole team standing behind them shooting them in the back with their own 5ML alphas) to dodge the LRM salvo.
Now that SOME teams are not totally hurr durr, and are going around the volcano, the tactics are getting a lot more interesting, and mobility and range are starting to play a lot bigger factor.
I hope this also happens someday to Crimson. I grow tired of watching my durr pug team stand in the center of the double decker garage and facehug to death.
