i almost never click on ready cause i like to observe: who am i playing against, who am i teamed with, whats my team's composition (how many lights, meds, heavies, assaults), try to form up a strategy with the pugs (i know.. its crazy right? but ive managed to do it a few times), forming lances based on speed/class (a wolfpacking light lance is awesome).

really tho, that timer gives you plenty of time to get to know your team, to ask questions whether we have a premade and such. its a time to discuss tactics & strategies like adults. this is a thinking man's shooter after all.

its like the prematch screen of rainbow six games of old where you get to plan/draw your movement and action on a map before you start the match. really wish we could do that here as team/lance commander.

That would be awesome if you could put down objectives during the prematch. I generally like to check out the lances and form a plan before everyone goes charging off. Sadly impatient self important people who can't wait 60 seconds have made that a risky thing to do. You would not believe how many idiots will try to team kill someone because they did not ready up quick enough.

Actually, it's this attitude that causes me to wait to click it to drive FPS twitch monkies crazy. Team game, not Hero with AI game.

So, "if people aren't thinking like I am, they're not team players, they're FPS twitch monkies"

I hope the irony was intentional.

Anyway, had a match last night in which the timer was already down to 15 when the last player appeared on the list, timer resetted to 60, the player didn't click ready, timer went on to 0, and continued on to -45 before match started. The last screenshot I got was at -44. Working as intended, I'm sure. Not wasting everyone's time at all.

Hit "ready" in your team, then hit launch, then hit ready again, then watch a startup animation.

Searching can take 1-2 minutes now, plus 1 min for ready up, 10 second startup and another 1 min of walking to even start to think about playing.

You know it is bad when that all takes longer than the actual game play.

There was one person in a match last night who spent most of the wait time clicking on and off the Company Commander button causing everyone else's client to beep continuously ... until someone else clicked on the button to stop him from doing so.

If there is a game mechanic that allows any sort of interaction with others ... someone comes up with a way to abuse it.

I've just started seizing it immediately, then asking if any of our lances are premade. If no or no response, I'll rearrange the lances if it seems prudent. If someone wants to rearrange lances, fine, but at least have the manners to ask if you're breaking up a group of friends.

I wish we could actually use the time constructively like this.

I think taking command of a team just to prevent the rearranging of lances is total BS. If someone takes command, that person has the responsibilty to command the entire team, not just their pre lance.

When someone takes control 1 sec after timer starts, right away that is a red flag. I will promply remind this person that they are in command of the entire team. Sometime it works and commands are issued. I would say that most of these same commanders had no intentions to command the team and they tend to die early in match.

I hate the button, but only because it's the second time every match that I forget to ready up. :)

I can vouch for this! :)

Oh I still issue commands (which are, of course, ignored. My point is, if you take command, ask if you're going to be breaking up a team before you start rearranging things. A little consideration and civility in-game would go a long way towards improving the game experience. Most of the people I've seen take command generally just tell everyone to go to the same place on every map - you know the place. Where "brawling" happens. Any orders outside of "go to the death bowl" or "head to ****** ridge" are generally disregarded. My pre-match comms are usually "Who has LRM's?" "Who has TAG?" "OK, any premades, or can I put the LRM boats together?"

If I was interested in all that I'd be dropping in a pre-made group that discussed all of this before holding up all the other players. Was anyone complaining BEFORE they put it in? Was there a SINGLE player out there who was like, "Hey PGI, in my drops you don't give us nearly enough time to coordinate, so could you please start a match, then like, NOT start it so we just sit around for like 2 minutes?"
