Am I the only one that is perplexed by the decision to have engines for sale that take up a certain amount of tonnage, which is shown when you buy the engine, only to put said engine in, and oh wait, you have to add heatsinks just to launch into a game? WTF! Engines need to come with the base 10 built in, none of this BS where you buy an engine and oh wait you have to waste more of your space and load out tonnage by adding more heatsinks! If you are going to continue to deviate from tabletop rules, then cease calling this game Mechwarrior please...

Actually, the reason for requiring external sinks is BECAUSE they are adhering to TableTop rules. Engines rated under 250 in TT were intended to artificially tax the user of critical slots by not carrying the base 10 sinks inside of them. Note that the total tonnage is the same in the end whether the sinks are outside or inside, it's just a matter of saving slots.

They reduced the weight of the engine (which also includes you're Gyro, Life support and Cockpit weight, in case you didn't know) to compensate for those missing heat sinks. Its a bit clunky, but it does actually work out to the same weight (which is why a commandos stock loadout works).

If you want to quote table-top rules, then please go actually read the rules before spouting nonsense. As FupDup said, they're actually adhering to them.

If they were going to adhere strictly to tabletop rules:

A. The game would have turned out terribly
B. It would be called BattleTech

In conclusion: Idiotic post is idiotic.

ROFL, this thread reminds me of the trolls on FB that post about how the 28th Amendment (U.S. Constitution) should make this law and that law and this decision and that decision null and void....

If only it weren`t for the fact that the constitution only has 27 Amendments.... :)

Exact same thing here, using the TT rules to support your argument, thereby displaying a profound lack of knowledge of those same rules = priceless :(

As a legendary founder you would expect to know something about the battletech universe, but you don't it seems. Bought the account (which would be stupid as this is a free to play, or maybe you wanted the freebies someone told you about...)?

I think it just needs to be automatic. Make it work like ES / FF and reserve some slots for heat sinks dynamically as soon as you put in a sub-250 engine. I understand the purpose of taxing your critical space, it's just clunky to have to add them manually, remember how many you've got so you don't accidentally go below the threshold, etc.

As a legendary founder, one of my favorite mechs in closed beta was a 3xAC5 Hunchback HBK-4G(F) with 6 heat sinks. The change to require 10 heatsinks was not always in-game.

And PGIs current implementation of engine weight is differnt that TT, when you buy your engine only the heatsinks it contains are accounted for (and the gyro and cockpit weight as well), not the 10 it is required to carry. Furthermore, there is no indication in the game that you must carry 10.

Depending on which side you're describing, you're wrong or.... well... you're wrong.

In MWO, the game flat-out tells you 'you must have X heat sinks' when you leave the MechLab, where 'X' is 10 minus the number of heat sinks contained within the engine structure yourself. So there is an indication that you must carry 10.

In the tabletop, the rules have stated for ages 'Every BattleMech comes with ten heat sinks that do not count against the total tonnage'. So there is an indication that you must carry 10.
