Skirmish
This new game mode is called, "Skirmish." This would be rather easy to implement into the game as it doesn't require major design changes. Basically, it would be similar to Assault Game Mode with one major difference. Instead of 12 vs. 12 matches, it will be only 4 vs. 4 matches. That's right; each team will only have one lance on the battlefield (Lance Alpha). Not every single match needs to be a major engagement. Having smaller based combat would be rather interesting and keep things fresh and offer more variety to MWO. This focuses on small group gameplay.

Arena
This new game mode is called, "Arena." It's very simple; you duel another player in 1v1 combat. The best part is this should not take much development time to add to MWO. Single tournaments would be great for lone wolf players. This would break up the monotony of the game and adds something new and exciting. Challenge your friend to see who the best MechWarrior is! The matchmaker would automatically match people of similar weight class and skill. This focuses on individual gameplay.

I would love these... though It may not be exactly how you describe them, I'd like 4v4 but... 4v4v4v4v4v4. So there's still 24 mechs, but 6 teams of a lance each. That would be kinda like free for all, but still have (and really enforce and improve) team play.

As for 1v1, I say pretty much the same thing. 24 free for all players would be so amazingly hectic.

Any of this stuff would really help break up the current ho-hum tedium of this game. Most of all I would like arena though, with a leaderboard. I don't think it needs to match by weight unless both players choose that option. Theoretically, and as originally promised by the devs in closed beta, any weight of mech should be able to beat any other mech in 1 v 1 regardless of their respective weights. Also... maybe add weapon restrictions as an option, such as no streak missiles.

Was thinking along similar lines myself. Would love to be able to challenge friends/foes to 1on1 arena combat. Where the players can limit certain mechs/weapons, provided both agree.
Also the 4v4v4v4v4v4 idea seems like a pretty cool idea too.

still waiting for the Solaris Games maps:

Boreal Reach
The Davion arena uses holographic technology, coupled with advanced environmental controls, to produce virtually any setting a person can conceive of. It takes its name from one of the more popular such settings, a polar glacier. The arctic environment provides challenging footing, while enabling MechWarriors to push their 'Mechs to the limit, thanks to the extreme cold.

The Factory
The Marik battlefield began its life as a shuttle manufacturing plant large enough to accommodate IndustrialMechs. The decrepit facility features multiple levels with elevators and ramps to move between them.

Ishiyama
The Kurita area is actually a series of tunnels dug into a man-made mountain. Stone Mountain provides a hide-and-seek style engagement. There is also electromagnetic interference from the materials that the mountain is made of, making any fight here unpredictable. The "mountain" was built in 3007 in Kobe District.[2]

The Jungle
This parcel of land was originally planned as a Buddhist monastery, but the Liao government decided to designate it as their official "arena." The battle area in this open tract is demarcated by a series of beacons. Extra beacons located inside the battlefield can be activated to shrink the area of the field down to a quarter of its full size.

Steiner Coliseum
The arena in Silesia was designed with a Roman-esque facade. The battlefield of the arena is largely featureless, utilizing walls that can be raised or lowered to provide variety.
