I don't think there is a real, honorable role for streaks in this game. Its an FPS and these streaks aim themselves and hit 100% of the time when you are in range and LoS. That's really a poop mechanic, but if it was tough to maintain lock, or if your missiles would lose lock if you lost lock while they were flying...that would make them better.

I think part of the problem here is the desire to appeal to new players + the desire to appeal to veterans of the PC games (but not the board game) vs the desire to appeal to the people who should only be given lip service the board game players, who are all 60 year old neck beards.

Sadly forgotten are the people who loved the novels :).

Frankly I think the state of the game is pretty damn balanced. Probably the best that I've seen since...maybe some point in closed beta minus the universally lagshielded lights.

What Streaks need once and for all is to have their targeting mechanic changed from the ground-up so that they seek the area that you aim at. Additionally, damage would be matched with that of standard SRMs (the extra weight sacrifice is for the guidance system). If you aim at the CT, you should hit the CT. If you aim point at the left arm, you should hit the left arm. If you aim at the right leg, you should hit the right leg.

Note that this doesn't mean 100% guaranteed to hit the aimed-at location, it just means that the missile will try its best to hit that spot. For instance, if you aim at the hunch of a Hunchie and he twists fast enough to the right prior to impact, the missiles may end up hitting somewhere on the left side of his body instead of the hunch.


This solves the issue of being too easymode against lights/mediums, while simultaneously improving their effectiveness against larger targets, and increases the overall skill floor of the weapon.

SSRMs?


Edit: I have been using it now in 12mans all night. It is sickening :/ was 150m above this Spider, nowhere near my screen, and got lock and killed him.

I have never had this happen using streaks or lrms. I would like to see this on video happen in action for an extended period in a real match. Also, is this a new occurrence, like since that mini patch on Thursday?

You need to get target lock, then just move the reticule off.

Then its definitely a new bug, haven't played streaks since Wednesday and it wasn't the case then. Did run lrms on Thursday but didn't see it there either.

This might deal with the problems in an objective sense but it would probably lead to an INCREASE in the howling from the haters.

I wonder if this is an LRM-Artemis change. If that is the case, this behavior is woefully undesirable for Streaks.

I mean, it's a great idea to allow Streaks the benefit for Artemis sped-up locking amirite?

i thought it was just wobble reticle inanely within the red sqare to achive a hit, now i'm seeing you don't even have to do that!?

SSRMs = major crutch weapon or i iz shooting stuffs.
