Afaik they use some advanced prototypes to do heavy work in constzruction already, and to help disabled people do stuff again. Cause who wants this

when you can have this and lift the frickin car yourself

Oh and of course our american friends use their own variations to put heavier stuff on the shoulders of their soldiers. They can use a heavy MG in each hand already. But of course they are only going to use it for the good, just like they bombed the rest of the world almost without a break only for the good...

I also found this interesting, mostly because it is very low powered flight. There is very little inside the bird and i beleive comment about it being full of helium is false. They also made a penguin and a jellyfish.

Watch the way it skids on the ice, drops to its knees to balance and picks itself up. Thats really cool.

PETMAN: The section with Petman is a min or so into the video. Can't believe how agile and fluid it is.
Kurata Robot: Sure, it's a bit silly - but I still want one.

The story goes that bassical the mechs are called 'labors' since they were design for construction much like the current exoskeltons. But these were driven from the inside much like the mechs we all know from fantasy. A Patalbor was simply 'patrol labor' designed to combat other labors that were used for illegal activites. All they were in essence were a labor with a gun and enchanced armor. No flight, no special powers or insane manuverabilty. The most 'realistic' form of mech that i have seen portraid in an anime were those from Patlabor.
Those types of 'mechs/labor's we already have the technology to build. But they are just uneconomic and inpractical. Why use a giant mech to build when u have much cheaper options available. Why use a mech for battle when a tank is much more usefull.
There is no doubt that its possible, its just there is no reason to put the investment into them.

Somehow, the suit got militarized, as with all instruments that were once concieved for peace, expediency causes them to take arms.
The original Gundam is quite similar to the Patlabor Ingram in concept. A mech with a gun. Just a bigger gun, lets say, a big rifle, instead of a handgun. At least on Earth, they originally didn't fly and were pretty much ground based.
But on space, its realistic enough to expect that in zero gravity, weight won't count, and they would virtually fly like fighter craft. If you take a Battlemech with jumpjets, like say a Highlander or a Victor, put it in space, you won't expect it to fight like a big stompy robot. Provided you have jumpjets angled and placed for maneuvering, a huge Battlemech would also fight Gundam like, and every weapon won't have a maximum range either, nothing that would shorten range like air and gravity would. Of course, ballistics will have more recoil, but maneuvering jets would have to be reprogrammed to counter that.

When in a vacume the JJ's would use a fuel sorce but according to BT lore such a fuel sorce is extremly limited.

That was honestly the first thing I ever read that made Gundam look interesting.
