Oh god... dem shoulders, muddy texture cockpit, stupidly sized medium laser slots. the concept art was much better. seriously what is this monstrosity? at least the cockpit ls bubbleish like the original but holy {Scrap} those textures are terrible. the coloration and cartoon proportions looks like they ripped it right out of borderlands or something. and what happened to the awesome underslung arm PPC seen in the concept art, it looks like the PPC is sticking out of its hand so its like a haduken shooting battlemaster. holy {Scrap} this thing is ugly and its shoulders go up so high i don't think you will need to worry about a XL engine because the arms will be taking all the hits. its still a little bit cool but it looks nothing like the awesomeness that was the concept art battlemaster.

also looking at the background with the nearby building it looks like its a little bit on the smaller end of the assault mechs. a assault mech with the size of a heavy mech. but really the medium lasers need a redesign the black box look of them are just ugly as ****. this is legit starting to make me regret buying overlord but i guess its a little late to refund and i don't want to go though the process and i just hope they at least make the thing a little prettier. but the SRM pack looks cool and the cockpit looks neat and seems like the 1st person view wont be as restrictive as the locust. but really it barely matches close to the awesome design of the concept art.

EDIT: cleaned up a few major grammar errors, i typed this reply fast.

What on earth are you on about?! It looks amazing and a good representation of the concept art.

Pros:
  • VERY high mounted torso weapons
  • Big arms fer blockin'
  • Locations of the energy hardpoints on the side torsos seem indicative of a small, brawl-friendly CT
  • Torso is very compact overall
Cons:
  • Differs from the concept art in some non-aesthetically pleasing ways
  • Looks like CT may protrude a bit, making it difficult to fully shield.
  • Big 'crotch' area

Also, while I agree that the underslung PPC in the concept art was cool, that very thing is a point of complaint on other mechs, because it makes those hardpoints closer to the ground (See: Cataphracts). I'd rather have the forearm hardpoint in the long run, even if it is less 'cool.'

I also dig the addition of diagonal bunny-ear antennas as a nod to the original artwork. This, and the lack of a bubble cockpit, are probably the biggest complaints I've seen about the concept art (at least from the tabletop grognard faction).

Overall, I think they've done a good job. The biggest changes involve moving hardpoints upward, which positively affects the chassis' viability. We'll still have to see it perform in-game to be sure, however.

Side torsos look big but arms will block them very well unless twist is gimped. It looks very nice.

It's smaller than an atlas's.

Thanks.

I'm guessing that the skin is not finished. Concept art looks better than the in game version. What is with the blasted washed out colors on every mech

Not bad overall. Looks smaller than the Highlander/Atlas, but still beefy. Not a huge fan of the black outline for the torso lasers, maybe that should just have been a very thin trim of black.

My guess is that it isn't quite finished. Either way looks pretty cool; the upper torso lasers will be great for sniping.

At the risk of the forums wrath? i don't like it.. it's very different to the concept art in some places, and the concept looked cool as hell.

I miss the decals on the paintjob but really no mech looks "gritty" like in concept art except the Misery. Did people seriously expect it?

i hope that the finished versions of the phoenix mechs that comes out next week has all the decals from the concept art on them because right now the difference the phoenix variants have from standard variants is just a perminate paintjob and c-bill and loyalty boosts... basically one of the reasons why i bought the phoenix packs is becasue each of the phoenix variants had really cool decals plastered all over the mechs, now you get the same effect as the phoenix variants if you just buy a standard variant when it comes out and throw white black and red paint on there. yeah shure you are missing out on the C-bill and loyalty boost but it will look the exact same and the reason we are getting these phoenix variants is so we can have cool awesome UNIQUE looking mechs. also tommorow im going to doodle over the phoenix battlemaster to display whats wrong with it and post it here. im to tired and annoyed to make a picture right now, especially since all my good picture editing programs went apeshit and now i need to deal with paint.

EDIT: anyone else notice that the phoenix colours are the same as the most popular colours that nearly everyone who has used MC on cammo has?
IMPORTANT: if a picture of the battlemasters cockpit gets uploaded and you post it here PLEASE put it in a spoiler. i want it to be a surprise on the 15th and the locusts cockpit has already been spoiled for me.
