You know what I said about the DA/PPTRO mix?
Checked the gallery. Shimmering Sword was waaaaay ahead of me.
I want this in game. Like, I don't care how much C-BILLS I'll need to grind.

Kyocera....

The Locust. That was unseen/reseen.

Shadow Hawk.

Cicada.

Pretty much all the PP mechs were/are unseen.

PGI used them with little worry.

Troll.

Shogun and Jones sure did though.

Back on topic, personally don't care about the original Marauder at all and I think ShimmeringSword's redesign or whatever pgi come up with will look better than the antiquated black and white sketch drawings they have currently.

yes they where but they whernt HG involved so it worked but HG seems to think they own macross so we wont see it sadly on the other hand if hg got taken to court and lost we might see catylist games make a deal with the owners of macross like they did with the owners of Dougram the fang of the sun

Personally the Reseen are nice, but it's not really fitting for the Marauder, a Marauder II perhaps (ignoring that their is already one). The Deviant art rework that got used for the XTRO I do think works better for a reworked Marauder.

I came into battletech at around 2000, well into the unseen era, yet I for the most part prefer the unseens, their are exceptions, and not that most of the reseens are bad per-say, but they do not exactly convey that their improved models that have a relationship to the older models to me.

That's the POINT. They're not supposed to look like the originals, except in overall terms. Otherwise HG gets to use the +5 Lawsuit-Hammer.

Yet they still get the similarities across -- the Marauder still has long thin legs and the low-slung arms, and now the artwork matches the stats in the placement of the autocannon (rather than having it perched on top despite being listed as being in the side torso). It no longer looks alien with insectoid cues like it came from a different game, like the old artwork did.

What I wouldn't give to see a Marauder II in the game, even a dramatically redesigned one. I actually liked the Mad II revisualization in PP - don't look half as bad as some of the other did - and I can live with that. If they want to give that the treatment they gave the King Crab, it could distance it even further from it's Robotech roots (I'm okay with that) and rebrand the 'Mech for a new life. I couldn't love that enough.

Locust = Crusher Joe (Not Harmony Gold related)
Shadow Hawk = Dougram (Not Harmony Gold related)
Cicada isn't unseen/reseen so not sure why you mentioned that one...

PGI could use the Crusher Joe and Dougram ones because the owners/licensors of those franchises are not Harmony Gold. Harmony Gold is the issue.

I'm relatively new to BT, so I'm not going to try to get super caught up on the FASA/HG issues.

But basically, if PGI were to put in anything that either looks like that Macross Battle Pod or is called "Marauder", HG will lose their ****, right?

So why not go apocryphal? Design a mech with the same stats and basic weapon configuration as the Marauder but cosmetically different enough (ie, forward articulated legs, squared off torso, beefier arms with hand actuators, etc), and call it the "Destroyer" or w/e.

For fluff it can be a Drac mech developed in the lead up to the War of 3039 as a Marauder replacement but with plans captured by the FedCom. The DC then sent the plans to the CC and FWL postwar. That way, all IS faction variants like the MAD-3M can be recreated.

I like the reseen marauder quite a bit. I also like that Shimmering Sword design. I like both a lot more than the original artwork.

I mean, 90% of all BT artwork is terribad. Like toddler-on-a-napkin bad. Cringe-worthy.

Alex is a great artist and he'll do great work with the Marauder whether he starts with the original artwork or the phoenix artwork.

PGI can use the name and the stats. The only piece of it that HG has control over is the original art work. PGI could actually take the amazing Shimmering-sword redesign should be their starting and ending point, drop it into the game and HG wouldn't actually be able to do anything.

Except... HG could drag the whole mess into court knowing they will lose and drag the proceedings on forever hoping to bankrupt PGI with court costs or blackmail them into giving up a piece of the profits. The problem isn't with HG, its with a legal system that allows them to bully other companies with legal shenanigans. I could care less about Apple and Samsung spending giant piles of money in a legal slap fight over who poked what dongle into which port first, but HG is a troll company trying to stifle creativity with an IP they aren't even bothering to use, except as a stumbling block to 2 active properties that have left them 30 years behind on both sides of the pacific.

And I am in favor of IP laws. We have Star Wars because Lucas couldn't get the rights to Flash Gordon, and we have Mass Effect because Bioware couldn't get the rights to Star Wars any more. So I do think IP laws can be useful. But only if the origional rights holder is doing something... anything with their property.

And don't get me started on happy birthday...

Personally I really like the Marauder redesign. All the legal stuff aside there are heaps of old BattleTech designs that just look silly, the King Crab is a prime example of this PGI did a wonderful redesign of it. Its not just limited to mechs either, just look at the Smoke Jaguar faction symbol. How and why did we decide the original was better than the redesign?

Hardcore Fans may shout the loudest, but that doesn't make them right.

Well for starters. The redesign did not have a Smoke Jaguar on it.

Looks too much like a King Crab now. The spindly appendages were part of it's cool.

I'll take it though. Better than nothing.

Ain't that the truth. It has a very ED-209 feel to it now that I like. I hated Crabs on the TT game.

BUT...there is something to be said for tradition. I still like the old Battlemaster design a lot more than PGI's. Ditto with the Locust.
