Some people seem to be suggesting that it would diversify build if you were limited in the number of pilot tree skills you could unlock at any one time. This is a load of codswallop. The primary driver on builds at this time has been the meme generated by various weapons buffs and nerfs, and differentials between available weapons mounting points on chassis. Pilot skill trees have not come into this at all. The skill trees are a driver to continue developing skills on a chassis.

I say this as someone who has mastered every mech chassis and variant, and has over 65 000XP above the Master Module level on all of them.

You want a better system, use prerequisite unlocks for pathing of pilot focus (movement, gunnery, sensors).

Or, require a certain number of Mastered chassis before some skills are available due to a need for a breadth of experience.

You could make development slower and more expensive at the upper level.

The moment you limit the number of usable skills at once, you are saying I should give up this game right now, because I can go no further. That skills have in effect become modules. Does this mean our brains need to be rated to see how many skill modules they can hold at once?

New players may not have this issue, but you are getting a greater number of pilots who finish mastering all the mechs they currently want. In effect you are saying to the veteran pilots that the new players need a chance to catch up, so we don't care about your experience.

This game should have team goals, but also unlimited personal skill development, because individual rewards are at the core of the game. Getting the XP on a mech means putting in considerable time and effort. You're killing the Rennaissance Man type pilot, in favour of the less-experienced specialists.

Please reconsider. Following a path that was used in a very different game isn't the way to go. There is no magic in MWO. If you want to look at roleplaying games, there are no limits in the Battletech variants. Skills are knowledge, something we should constantly strive to increase.

I agree with Voidsinger.

Additionally, such a limitation would only force people to create multiple accounts in order to unlock more trees. This would simply be inconveniance for pilots (who would have to switch accounts now and then while now they don't have to do it), and also in inconveniance for PGI (since then statistics would be affected, with many players then being represented by mupltiple accounts rather than very few of them being so). I guess it's a loss/loss situation nobody wants to get into.

Unless PGI would do even worse thing and limit pilot skill trees by a clients' IP, that is. But this would mean actual *harm* to both some pilots and PGI, since in many areas of the world, many physical computers are represented by a single "external" IP, resulting in potentially dozens or hundreds of possible players all having same IP to MWO servers; so this would make the game unplayable for thousands and thousands of people (since someone else from "their" IP would already "occupied" all possible skill trees), and so this would also reduce total number of players (read - reduced PGI profits).
