Contrary to newbie belief:

Assault classes are not the most logical, easy, or fun, mechs to play.
They're not even the most rewarding.
It's highly recommendable you pick up a Light or Medium. These can be challenging, but play them smart and they are easily the funnest mechs.
Plus when weight limits go in, they'll be some of the most common mechs, who get the best matchmaking as a result.

If you pick up an assault, you're expected to carry your team a lot more than if you're in a lower weight class.
And the advice to stick with a team works better if you're a bit faster too.
