Hermes II, a medium mech with almost the armor of an heavy mech, would be a good example of this.
(Not intending to put any more gasoline to the fire, but just pointing out the obvious of the Tech Manuals from 80's, 90's, 00's).

The Hermes II is a Medium Mech with almost exactly as much armor that any 40 ton Mech can mount - A stock example Hermes-2S has 88% armor coverage (240 armor in MWO Terms). Meaning it mounts as much as a Cicada can. And a Dragon is a popular Heavy Mech that mounts near max armor it can take for 60 tons. If you meant in pure stock fashion, yeah, a Hermes II, and even a Jenner has more armor stock than a Jager-S. However, in full out customization of Mech Warrior, people mount far more armor, and nearly almost max it out.

In other words, if a Shadowhawk is the size of an Assault Mech, a Shadowhawk can still not mount as much armor as an Assault Mech. Hence, why scaling and hitboxes matter in a real-time Mech Warrior Game, we aim where we want to.

This is just common sense we are talking here.

I made that picture, not PGI. You can recognize the paint skin on the Dragon from my latest music parody:

Great vid, Heffay.

You guys know nothing, the Shadow Hawk does it's job fine. Obviously, medium mechs are going to play a huge role in CW, when you need to attack enemies in water. Everyone knows they specifically designed all medium mechs to float in water to attack ships in the lore. It's in nearly every book too.

May I suggest a common method to compare mech sizes. For any two mech, line the centerline of one mech behind one corner of one of the Crimson Strait warehouses, while the other mech's centerline is behind the other corner of the building. Take an in-cockpit screenshot with the photographer mech's gunsight pointing at center of the warehouse so we can get a range figure. The fov of the photographer mech needs to be set at the default 77 degrees of view.

Look at all the people who don't play mediums complain about mediums...

1. I play mediums.

2. You don't need medium experience to see that the scaling is absymally awful, mk. I eyeballs will do. One, in a pinch.

I am totally appalled at the size of this mech... And of TDR's size too...

Here is this wonderful post that contains ALL the logic, that PGI is so desperately MISSING when dealing with sizes.

I'm wondering, why they didn't make all assaults the size of Commando, and all lights the size of Atlas? Their logic is not far from that anyway...

Why is it so hard to make size proportional to weight? So hard? Really? *headache*

you sir have won the internet today......

Yes something so obvious seems to elude the Dev. Its a shame....

I'm not going to comment on the size before I actually see it in the game and get to pilot it, but other than that it looks great. A rude ******* with a big gun on the shoulder. I currently only pilot Hunchbacks so this might be fun for the added JJ's (unless it indeed is as huge as some pictures suggest).

ITT: Lots of people who are going to get ****** from behind and upside down by the Shadow Hawk for reasons that should be hilariously obvious, but shall not be mentioned. The QQ will be glorious :P

Why height doesn't matter for determining relative size:

TBFH it kinda needs to be tall. If it was as short as a hunchie it would render the latter obsolete.

The Hunchback already is obsolete with its easy to hit hunch-box and the bad hitbox design in the game. How is that an advantage again?

The legs of PGI's Shadowhawk are much too long.

Does anybody have the Ral Partha minatures of the Shadowhawk and other mechs to do a real size comparison?

All sarcastic remarks and ill will aside, the shadow hawk is actually a really good mech, despite being too large.
