With the PPC heat penalty, the huge CT hit box, that max of two module slots, and the availability of the similarly priced Jagers, does anyone notice that the K2 is the most nerf'd mech in the game? A few months back, I used to be scared of going toe to toe with a K2. Not only does it have one of the sickest appearances of any mech, it used to have so much punch! These days, though, I wish I hadn't spent my cbills and time upgrading Catapults. It feels like my K2 is the least competent mech of all. It doesn't matter what loadout- lazer boat, AC2s, dual LB10X... PPCs (forget about it!). The mech runs hot and has paper armor. It only has one thing going for it compared to other mechs: the torso twist. Am I the only one that feels this way? I used to love my cats.

Cats are still good, including the K2. That torso twist is sick, and something that still scares light pilots like me.

The K2 is one of my more efficient killers.

I know the feeling, yet a it could indeed use a slight CT hit-box overhaul, compared to a Jager it feels weak and outgunned.

K2 could be an awesome mech if the head hitbox were fixed.

The Catapult's head hit boxes aren't broken. Why do they need a fix?

I get headshotted much more in my Catapult than in all my other mechs together. But it works in the other way, too. It's totally easy to snipe the head that you're not really aiming for.

I support you, I learned that lesson too, the hard way.

The only real threatening Catapult is the K2, but maybe it's just experience or some traumatic experience, but all Catapults are generally just soft no matter how you play them... it's how you go about dealing the damage through minimizing your exposure...

The K2 was basically the Jager before the Jager came along. Swapping the the ballistics and energy points around works in the Jager's favor. Yes, the K2 has an easily hit CT hitbox, but this makes running an XL more viable. And, yes, 'pults have a slightly oversized head hitbox, but that isn't much of an issue unless you are dumb enough to just sit there and get gunned to bits by laser and AC based mechs. Saw a fellow in an LRM 'pult ignore me once while I was in plain view of him, probably because I was in a Commando. Two bursts of triple MPL later he was shy a cockpit, and I doubt he's made that mistake again (or I least I hope).

Catapults have been overshadowed by Jagermechs and Cataphracts. The biggest problem is the fact that most Heavies/Assaults coming out now are overpowered, not that the K2 itself has changed..

The K2 is one of the best heavy's in the game. I do seem to get headshotted MUCH more often, but that aside, it is a versatile and pretty brutal mech when configured correctly

Not really, an even match would be preferable, with an XL you need to twist and shield your dmged parts or you are toast.

A Jager as much better shielding capabilities as any Cat, and don't forget those arms on the Jager.

Let's compare the K2 and Jager-6, shall we?

Reasons to buy a 6:
More dakka (4L/4B)
Side Torso shields
Arms are way up high
Probably more frontal armor
Awesome sniper, especially over hills
Faster for the tonnage(?)

Reasons not to:
Slower torso twist, less total twist
Large profile, very square from the front
Easier to hit cockpit
Slow turn rate, overall less responsive mech (but fast)

Reasons to buy a K2:
Slim profile
Fast twist, WAY MORE total twist
Lasers are in the arms, making it easier to react to scouts
Overall a responsive Mech that packs a punch
Good for sniping over hills, better for sniping along straightaways

Reasons not to:
Less dakka for the weight
slow
cockpit is easy to hit
yummy chicken legs are enticing to Lights

Overall they are both well-matched, but I prefer a responsive Mech over a powerful one. Thats why I like Hunchbacks more than Atlai, and Catapults more than Jagers (even though they are all great Mechs and I use every one of them).

Eh, I don't get the OP as well. The K2 was my first bought mech and it's served me damn well over its lifetime. The thing about is that going dual (ER)PPCs in the arms is, I don't think, the best setup. Since PPCs suck, you need to forego for ballistics. I go dual AC10s with 2 mlas for backup/light repellent and have been having a fair bit of success.

As for the cockpit, yeah I've been headshotted a few times, but as long as you keep the mech moving, it shouldn't happen.

On another note though, I would probably still recommend the J6M-S or DD over the K2 and kinda wish I got one of those as my first instead of the K2. Doesn't mean the K2 is not one of the most effective heavies though.

Firebrand = K2 with 2 more energy hardpoints, ballistics moved to the arms, and an extra module slot.

Yes, the K2 is still an okay mech, but it's kinda overshadowed at this point.
