Im new to MWO, but not Battletech. Ive been playing for 25 years or so on the tabletop, and love the 3025 Suc. Wars tech genre. Ive gone all in with the Phoenix mechs and am looking for others to train and learn with. I figure us Phoenix owners will be in HIGH demand for the factions, so I have not joined one yet. Lets TEAM up!

Not entirely sure if one might say high demand. But it is certainly a plus in the eyes of some, it means you have a minimum of 12 mechs ready to roll come the 15th and at least 3 of each weight class.
There's a number of groups looking to recruit -- since you're limited to here most likely (yay pgi restrictions on new players), you probably can't post in the factions or outreach threads.
In the mean time, many groups have an open door policy and outreach threads.
An open door policy means "come in, drop with us. Play with us whenever you want so long as there isn't a problem. Joining is entirely optional but welcomed."
Zhizhu Mercenary Corporation has one too. We're active in the evenings, highly so on Wednesdays whenever possible. Fairly active toward weekends too. We're responsible for the Perfect Screenshot Thread.
To message anyone privately, click their name and then send message. I could share a teamspeak address then. We tend to keep that part private for reasons associated with a no drama policy.

Anyone who is interested is welcomed. Again, 90% of us play in the evenings, with interests in MWO, tactics, POE, Star Citizen, Bf4, Megamek (free digital Battletech tabletop), DayZ and a number of others.
Lore-wise we're Liao affiliated, but given the mechanics of MWO's announced CW, we're likely to bounce back and forth with faction affiliations. We have no specific mech or specialty requirements. Our age range is 18 and up and our average ages are in the late 20s to early 50s. Mixed backgrounds. Lively discussions. Friendly atmosphere. Both genders accepted. We do have group colors but they are not mandatory. (Most of us wear whatever we want anyway unless we're looking to make a show of force.)

That said when you can peruse the factions thread and you'll see any number of groups looking new blood, and pretty much all of them are very welcoming.

Don't forget, while he can look at those forums he can't post there yet due to restrictions for new forum users who have to "get their feet wet" before they're allowed to post anywhere.

I know there a lot of Merc corps and units that allow you to run with them without having to join them. This allows you to see if you would like running with them.
There is a Lone Wolf Support Group. These guys are fun to run with and are very easy going. They only have one rule...NO DRAMA!

If you are really looking for the full experience, download TeamSpeak 3. Then maybe check out the Comstar server. It can be found at na1.mech-connect.net I am a member of Black Omen and we can be found under Allied Merc Corps. Great bunch of people who are always willing to drop and help. We also run the gamut of ages and experience. The vast majority of us are very casual, albeit frequent players of MWO.There are a LOT of groups on this server as well as pugs who want a group they can drop with and be on comms.
