So, I already did some Locust testing... now I'm onto Shadowhawks...

Earlier...

I think the AC2 Overlord SHD-2H or the Supressor SHD-2H would make a nice partner to a Hunchie. Both would pound at the enemy as the Hunchie moves in covering him and then then Hunchie would open up what was left.

Or you can trade up to a Firebrand SHD-2H which runs cool with intermittent PPC firing (you can also trade up to an ER). Or the good old Poptart Sniper SHD-2H. Or even a Midrange Poptart SHD-2H...

Or switching to fellow brawlers... a Ac20 SHD-2H which heavily relies on ammo, but can use the SSRMs chainfired to rock opponents while the AC20 recharges. The Single ML is a solid backup or a bit of extra kick... It makes a nice companion to a Hunchie at the same ranges... Not as fast though.

However I tried the AC2 Overlord, it actually wasn't that bad... except it was horridly slow... acceleration and deceleration are pathetic without even basics... So I made a 280XL version of the 'Supressor' and it was mildly more zippy, but it didn't do well either (Though part of that was my team and the map)...

So what builds are you all running? (Haven't gotten to the other SHD mechs)..

I do have a few more rounds under my belt... The 'Firebrand' design did ok... Nothing to write home about though...

Besides feeling very sluggish, I have noticed they seem fairly XL safe as I have yet to die by side torso kill... Oh and the size... I found it funny I can look over the head of a Jager... In fact I fired over the head of one from simply running behind him (He was my shield!)... Oh and final note: The 'hunch' never goes away, just the barrels so you cannot get rid of the darn thing if you should so chose...

The pre qq was hil-ar-i-ous! I knew a 3x ac2 with jets would rock bells and it does! So much destruction! Running mine with afformentioned ac2s, 2 streaks and a medium laser.

I almost miss the days when I had to experiment for days, if not weeks, to get new mechs right. I have now reached a Zen state where I just look at new mechs in Smurfy and know instantly what fits my playstyle. All my Shadowhawks are already awesomesauce.

SHD-2D2: STD 250 engine, 1 JJ, 10 DHS, 2 LPL and 1 AC5 with 2 tons of ammo

SHD-2H: XL280 engine, 3 JJs, 10 DHS, ER PPC, Gauss with 4 tons of ammo

SHD-5M: XL280 engine, 0 JJs, 10 DHS, 2 LL and 2 AC5 with 3 tons of ammo

That was definately a build I was thinking I would try.

How are you building this one? I seem to lack 2 tons of space to get the 3 tons of ammo (which isn't much anyways)...

Strip off a lot of armour, put a ton of ammo in your cockpit and live life on the edge, son!

After even more games... I've found the 275 std/280 XL seems to be the sweet spot for the Shadowhawk, it stops feeling like a brick worse than a tbolt...

Even a 280XL, 3xAC2+ML (I just cannot give up backup weapons) does acceptably well for how tall it is...

I had some luck with the Hunter SHD-2D2... Though I kept having lag spikes, so actually following lights was... problematic...

Also planning to run a.... mixed... USHD-5M. It worked fairly well, or at least in line with all my other SHDs I've run. Of course the UAC5 loves to jam and the MPLs cannot really make up for that, but I do love the shorter time on target needed for the MPLs and when luck is with you 2xMPL+UAC5 on double tap is mean...

Here's what I'm planning.

Overlord SHD-2H with the dual AC5s, a pair of streaks, a ML and a 300 XL. She'll run extremely cool, have the zip to get around and keep at the range she wants and the paired AC5s work surprisingly well. I also find that 2 streaks is enough to run off most spider/Jenner wolfpacks. The ML is there because... well, sometimes you just need to laser someone. For 55 tons she'll run and jump with the best of 'em.

Getting a decent showing in a SHD-5M

275 XL
ENDO
10 DHS
3/5 jumpers
UAC5
LRm15, LRM5
X2 Medium lasers.

It is making a pretty good line mech and hill humper.

I've been messing around with some builds ingame and have hammered down what i like with two of the three variants.

For the hero variant, 2H[P], i use this build http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b60d2e3550d58d8. With a XL engine 360, this thing reaches 106 kph (116.6 with tweek), which makes it great for chasing down lights and getting in to a better position. I generally start off by poking at the enemy team with the er LL, then depending on the situation, either target those pesky lights or start flanking. 3 ssrms and 3 mgs make it great at both, with the er LL to give a nice kick. This is my favourite build so far with the shadows hawks.

The the 2D2 variant, i use this build http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c23f901b6d5517. Having to leave out a XL engine for extra torso slots, a std 240 engine leaves it much slower than the above build. But when you're rocking an AC20 with 5 tons of ammo, 70.7 kph (78.8 with tweek) is as fast as you need to be. It packs one hell of a punch and is a build that's worked surprisingly well for me. I was tempted to lower the armour on it to change the two MLs for an er LL, but so far haven't found the need to do so. Besides, the extra armour helps in slower builds.

The only variant i don't know what to do with is the 5M, I've tried a few different builds, but can't find something which fits my playstyle.

EDIT: I fail at linking >.>

3xAC5 + Md Laser 170 Std engine. Typical sniper atypical weight, but slow.

2xAC5 + ER Lg Laser 300 XL engine. Something nearly as snipy with a lot more speed. (After seeing some other builds my investigate 2 Lg lasers as an option)

2xPPC + AC5 255 XL engine. I tried and AC10, but the heatload was too great, I may try a UAC5 instead.

SHD-5M

That was my first build with the shadow hawk.... my first game in it i dealt 873 damage

I love this mech.... I love it so much, consistently around the 500 damage mark.

I've gotten two which end up somewhat serviceable.

4xSRM2, LBX10, 2SL, 3Jets, 325XL (Shotgun build)
2AC/5, 2ML, 5jets, 300XL

For the most part I've found the thing is just plain {Scrap} in close combat (not surprising given that it's so large someone picking off your side or CT is pretty easy).
This seems to concur with most of the "good" builds I'm seeing being long-range variants.

My builds so far.

SHD-2H AC-10

SHD-2H DAKKADAKKADAKKA

SHD-5M Sniper

Don't know why, but smurfy is glitching when I try to build my SHD-2D2 as it shows the tonnage wrong when I try to put armor. But I use it as a quick light hunter with XL330, AC5, 4 ssrm and 2 ml.

All of the builds work fine. Best results I've had with AC-10 and Sniper.

I didn't expect it, but I think the Shadowhawk might be my favorite mech of the group.

For loadout, I go with what I call..."Zombie MKII"

2SRM4s, 1SRM2, 2A/C5. DHS and a XL295 Engine. No energry hardpoints and the arm ammo taken down to about 10 or 12 points. I run 5 tonns of A/C5 ammo and 3 tons of SRM ammo.

I could so going to the A/C10, but I sacrificed 2 missiles (a 3rd SRM4 launcher instead of the current SRM2 launcher) for the higher DPS and range of the A/C5s.

Good build, love it.

Here's my build of the Shadowhawk and I'm surprised at how well it survives.

SHD-2H

I consistently get over 400 damage with it and it has enough speed to disengage from fights that are against me.

I was worried about ammo issues when I designed it, shortly after Smurfy went live with the (then) unreleased (P) versions. I mean, 1 ton of amo for an AC2? And only a single ton for 3 Streaks? But so far it's done ok.
