The main drawback for MWO is simply maps. In order for PGI to increase the map count significantly with little development time, they should focus on adding map variants, such as...

Canyon Network (Flooded)
The sky turns black with an approaching thunderstorm. All the lower levels of the Canyon Network are flooded; the waterline almost completely submerges a BattleMech.

Tourmaline Desert (Night Dust Storm)
It's dark in Tourmaline Desert with a freak dust storm. Visibility is significantly reduced on the battlefield. The dust produces static discharges that screw with night and thermal vision.

Crimson Strait (Hurricane)
Massive hurricane is approaching the city with heavy rain and reduced visibility.

Alpine Peaks (Summer Sunset)
It's summertime in Alpine Peaks with lush green fields and wild flowers. The sky is filled with vibrant red colors as the sun is setting on the horizon. We need a lush green map.

HPG Manifold (Ruins)
With countless battles, the facility is now in ruins. Many paths are blocked while many new ones are open.

Caustic Valley (Night)
Battle will now commence at night. Caustic valley at night has been requested many times.

Terra Therma (Eruption)
Volcanic eruption has destroyed the center platform while lava flows are significantly larger.

+1 but not with all the reduced visibility maps. i don't like being forced into thermal vision half the time. Whats wrong with being able to see? Dark/foggy occasionally is fine for variety, but in general i like being able to see what im shooting, and also seeing colours that aren't just shades of grey.

I'd like to see an Alpine PEaks Blizzard or Avalanche too. Change the routes up a bit. As someone who has started map variant threads in the past, support 10000%.

There's been many similar ideas thrown around, but these are some of the best I've seen.

Best for variety and EASY implementation (hint hint PGI)

How about a hot and cold map where the same map has little areas of hot and little areas of cold. Caustic at night or something.

I've been wanting a stormy and rainy map for a while. I like the sounds of flooded canyon.

I'd approve of these alternate maps, even the night ones.

Canyon Network flooded is nothing new. Garth said he would pass it on to the devs over a year ago. (will have to try and find that post) More to the point, full support.

PGI might want to optimize their particle code before we get more maps like frozen city with the snow storm (snow storm is brutal on performance).

I quite like the idea of tourmaline night.. deserts get cold at night, so it could be a completely different playing experience

Yes

Love the idea of wading chest deep in a river in Canyon :D

Guess lasers wouldn't work under water though would they?

They should still work, as far as I understand BT technology.

Should slow down speed of travel though from water resistance, which might be hard for PGI to do.

Just give the players access to the map tools/content, let them make maps, and take the best ones into the game. Let players use them in training grounds on their home computer in order to test them.

Many, many games out there use player made maps and they often are as good as or in some cases better than the ones made by the company in charge of the game.
