Considering that mechs parts are made by companies like Mitsubishi and GE (because of fasa's relationship with GE back in the GEnie days), I think it would improve immersion to see ads for things like coke, sprint, and nvidia on billboards in urban city areas.

Also, it will make money for PGI, and we all want PGI to make money.

Please make it happen.

That is all.

Wow, bitter much? I'd ask if you were touched inappropriately by your priest as a child, but that would be rude.

It's a good idea.

Potential advertisers:

GM=Look at our new lostech styled line of cars.
Mitsubishi=From fusion engines to air conditioning.
Coca-Cola Classic= The same great taste since before we first left Terra. *We learned our lesson in 1992
Chase Bank= Low interest loans for everything from your first home to your first battlemech.

Fictitious companies would be great (ala GTA's parodical use of fake brands).

However, I do NOT want to see real ads paid for by real companies in a game I play to escape all that sh*t.

It's a mixed bag, but if done right, it could add variety to some of the maps.

As it is now, the city maps look pretty generic and sterile/dead. Like futuristic ghost-towns. The same type of car parked everywhere and not much else. Why not have advertisements/billboards on the big skyscrapers, Blade Runner style?

Yes: They cetainly shouldn't take you out of the game or look anachronistic. But if they are styled to look as if they were in-universe and would still generate a profit for PGI, I'm all for it.

"Pepsi/Coke! Keeps you cool, even when Betty calls for automatic shutdown"
"Urban pacification through superior firepower: The GM Whirlwind AC/5"
"Nissan XL Fusion Engines: When a standard just isn't good enough"

... or something like that - not *really* an advertising-guy here.

You worry about generic billboards???

How about a destructible environment?
How about weather?
How about mine-fields?

Seriously, I couldn't care less.

And if PGI starts adding REAL advertising in-game, I'll say "f**k you" to all the MCs I've invested and leave this game forever.

IGA is a loss. It was expected to boom in the 00's, but it didn't. The only place it seems to work is in high-volume sports games like the EA titles - and even there it's marginal:

Quote

in 2010, an Electronic Arts representative remarked, “We actually aren't getting much from ad revenue at all. The in-game advertisement business hasn't grown as fast as people expected it to."

It shouldn't be a priority of course. But I guess it would be a lot easier to implement a few of those than to convert the maps to destructible environment.

The General Motors Corporation invented the first self-sustaining fusion reactor in 2020.

Just 7 more years to go.. I can't wait! But since we're talking about GM, I guess it'll run on gasoline and get 0.1 mpg or something... :)

How big of an SUV would you need to power it with a fusion-reactor?

Hell no, not unless it is strictly lore-based propaganda.

Real advertising... I wish everyone that has ever wasted others time by forcing them to see/hear an add is equally harassed in "the hell of indestructible yip-dogs" for an equal amount of time.

Most of the free content you enjoy is subsidized by ad revenue. Like The Walking Dead? 30% of AMC's profit is advertising.

Exactly. Any company that exists today, has a chance to still be around in 3050 in some form, according to the lore.

More Examples : Ford & Northrop Grumman - "Descended from an ancient defense contractor based on Terra, Grumman Amalgamated was once a proud and important part of interstellar commerce."

Why not Coke? Why not Microsoft? I mean, Microsoft owns Mechwarrior, right? How about a billboard for the xbox one-zero, (coming November 3050!)

At least admit you have relatives in PGI team. Please.
Don't think, look at the hideous things you conceive! real ads in a videogame? more immersive? we all want PGI to make money? Don't use the plural to legitimate such rants, thanks.

So many people will say you're stupid and that this will "totally break immersion". But the hilarious thing is; if a Battletech technical readout book said that a mech used an Intel processor for a targeting computer or something, it's all of the sudden OK, because it's canon. Fanb0ys are totally ridiculous in this way.

If PGI could cut MC prices on mechs and other items by 25% by allowing advertisers to use the in-game billboards or whatever, I'd be all for it.
