I'd love a stock only mode. Brownie points if it has a tonnage and/or battle value limit as well.

+1

Stock only with tonnage limits. Variants may actually mean something besides being a different set of hardpoints.

I really hope there will be a stock only Q.. I think it well add a lot of fun to the game and balance. I hope I'm not the only one that thinks the mech lab is hurting the game yeah it's fun to play with the lab. but because of it is why we have all these cheese builds

With stock only Q we can do away with ghost heat and the devs can focus on balancing stock mechs and not the endless weapon combination loadouts that is the mech lab
I'm not saying I'm against stock queues here, in fact I would even join every few games, but I fear this would split up the other queues too much...and I get the feeling the matchmaker isn't really spoilt for options at the momet. Also, I ran my AS7-D(F) stock the other day, and was quite please to see that the current balancing alows it to be competitive, and surprisingly fun to pilot; so much so, it's still stock apart from DHS (sorry guys), and dual UAC5s in place of the 20.

Edit: Also armor...forgot that one

Your most dangerous opponent would be heat and the lack of ammo. :)

Don't forget the lack of armor as well, stocks love skimping the armor.

I think a great way to implement a stock-only "Hardcore Mode" or whatever would be: have any mech you drop with revert to it's stock state (Champions revert to the stock of their original chassis).

While this would keep people from having to manage loadouts, some mechs would need tweaking - I'm thinking ECM capable mechs that don't mount the thing by default. This adds fun gameplay to MWO so I think retrofitting their "stock" would be beneficial.

Some mechs come stock with XL, DHS and what not...but personally I don't think there would be an imbalance since most stock mechs are short on armor...which is a bad combo with an XL.

In regards to the objections, I think this would be a fun shift in gameplay and so long as everyone is playing on a level field it wouldn't matter how less frequent you fire, managing much higher heat, etc.

Frankly, you'd have to significantly rework the game's basic functions to do so- and having a 'Mech operate that differently in one thing vs. another strikes me as development badly needed elsewhere.

Now, you wanna give me stock 3025-era Skirmishes for fun? I'll take it.

How about a random stock only que?

You drop and it picks a random, stock mech for you. Be great for the LOLs and probably a better learning experience for new players.

if they fixed the heat system and NARC, I'd play stock mechs only

Solaris 7 style rules ruined the balance of weapons when 2-3 0.5 ton weapons were better than two 7 ton weapons!

There aren't enough players for a separate que for anything. Why do you think matchmaker sucks so much as it is? PGI doesn't have the playerbase for a more fair matchmaker.

I've been working more on this, but I want to wait until the point where we can have private matches.

Teams would have to roll on random assignment tables before the tourney began and only be able to use those mechs.

Tables would be based on the house the unit is in/attached to or roll on a merc table.

Might be a while though with private matches......

If the stock mechs suck, what does that tell you about the game balance? PGI have been chasing their own tail since 2012, if the stock mechs worked then the game would be in a better place. (I think :) )

Could always borrow a page from modern military shooters and offer an unlockable "campaign" for stock mechs. Hear me out for a moment:

*) Rhaythe presses, "New Game" Button:

Welcome to the MWO Stock Mech Campaign! To start, let's get your first battlemech. Choose one of the following:
  • Jenner D
  • Raven 4X
  • Centurian A
  • Hunchback 4G
  • Dragon 5N
*) Rhaythe selects Centurian A

Mechwarrior, your days of the academy are behind you. Now is the time to prove yourself in the field of battle. Prepare yourself for combat!

*) Game drops Rhaythe into a SKIRMISH game mode (Maybe a Solaris match)
*) -- This is an ELO match to get an idea of the player's skill level
*) Rhaythe gets pwned: 0 kills, 125 Damage - 330 XP Earned

Mechwarrior, your efforts did not go unnoticed. Time to select a contract. Your performance has earned you offers from the following companies:
  • Company A (Unlocks a second mech, lights only, probably most popular option)
  • Company B (Earns 5% more experience per match)
  • Company C (Early access to other game modes)

*) Rhaythe keeps playing, unlocking XP as he goes to unlock additional mech chassis, contracts, game modes, planets.

Not a true campaign, but at least there's some context here. A guy can dream, can't he?

There would be a challenge to it (managing awfully done weapon choices), but it sure wouldn't be balanced in MWO.

The current Trial Mechs of MWO would not be considered Stock builds. They have been buffed to offer new players a more level playing field versus Min-Max players.

Although many Stock designs are seen as brutal, and many are, when everyone plays the same set, then it is all good after the guaranteed "scrap filters" get applied.

Only problem with this is, most mechs come stock with SHS, which are entirely useless.

People would ONLY use the stocks with DHS, or an AC20.

In the stock tourney setup I am trying to figure out you would not be allowed to field all M models and models with the newer items since you would have to roll for mechs on a random assignment table before it begins.
