It's pretty self evident, the third tier is called "Master" and it's the additional slot. If you have the additional module slot (listed as MASTER in the pilot lab) then you have it mastered. If you don't have the third tier, called "Master" then you do not have it mastered.

And I just gxp'd them - there's nothing left to spend GXP on and I had a couple hundred thousand so why not.

Here many many people don't care about the extra module slot and 'mastered' is full elites. So... There is indeed some discussion on the subject...

If you haven't unlocked the master slot, you haven't mastered the mech. If you've unlocked all the "elite" tier, you have the mech elited. If you have all the basics unlocked, you've got it basic'd out. If you unlock the master slot, I think it also doubles your basics so there's a perk beyond just the extra slot. Some mechs really come into their own when mastered (the Yen Lo Wang, for one).

I am by no means a good pilot.

That said, holy heck, the things fun.

Last half of the match I had no leg, but they where tied up with my teams heavies, so I just sat there and pummeled away with one really big gun. Worked pretty ok.

I've only tried the phoenix variant so far. That thing is butts. Absolutely useless waste of 20 tons and a team slot.

I have only run around 5 rds in this mech but not for me.... I like to be effective in the mechs I run. thank goodness I have alot of gxp saved. Also, no new mechs to make we want to sell these yet. Rather be in a Shadow Hawk!

You only get your basic doubled once you learn all 4x Elite skills, nothing extra happens when you get the master lvl aside the extra module slot.

That's where the discussion comes, while yet the common sense points that mastered means = master skill learned.
Some ppl give it no importance and are happy enough after learn the 4x elite skills.

About efficiency, it's totally related at how you handle the mech. the 1V and 1M can perform as good as any Spider/Jenner albeit with their less tonnage/armor limitations due similar weaponry the 1S it's a different issue and require an ever bigger effort but still can make it presence worthwhile.

P.S: just remember, you have to pick your fights very carefully, know when to strike and when to fade, kind of hard mode for any light pilot so always welcomed to hone your skills being the underdog.

I've sold the two standards and when I'm in a masochistic mood I will probably continue and finish the basics of the Phoenix modell.

That said...did anyone else notice how Locusts suddenly disappeared? Certainly not fully, but "from one day to the other" they stopped dropping in hordes. Had many games with not even a single one dropping. As if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. Lol ;)

I'm having a great time in the Locust. Sure, if I get caught I get turned inside out easily, but for some reason, I have more fun and more confidence playing in a Locust than I did in my previous light, the Commando.

Even when I get smeared, I still have a good time. I'm so happy they included the Locust.

I love the way these things explode. They're like IEDs - you never quite know when they're gonna go ka-boom and pop a leg off!

Its my favorite variant so far. Splurge for the 180xl, yeah its not as fast as the 190, but it save you a half ton, then go endo and ferro, and DHS. You now have 7 tons to play with for laser and ballistic, AC2 locust? erpppc, erll, ll and 2 machine guns, done. When running this little ostrich you NEED to be in motion and using cover. be smart if you see a group of other lights or another mech and your alone RUN. draw them into your friendlies, then dive in and out of the melee putting hurt on their rear torso. I've managed to darn well like this. Sure I'm not atlas killer but I turn a slugfest between 2 mechs into anarchy as I come at the enemy pilot from all sides.

I love the locust 3M, and have had many great matches in it, but something I've noticed about the locust is troubling.

Are you guys having problems with lrms? Namely that they don't miss?

When my raven moves at 150 kph, even with my ecm in counter mode against a spider, lrm's tend to miss me, landing right behind. When my locust moves at 170, and I've broken line of sight with any tags, I still find the entirety of an lrm 20 volley hitting me.

It feels like there is definitely something weird with LRM behavior when targeting locusts.

I want to like it, but I know in my heart that it's a smidge slower and a smidge less armored than the Commando. And then there's the direct comparisons...

LCT-3S: Four missile hardpoints
COM-2D: Three missile hardpoints + ECM

LCT-3M: Five energy hardpoings
COM-TDK: Four energy hardpoints, fully articulated arms, +30%

LCT-1V: Who cares?

Earlier I had two 2-kill rounds in Locusts.

In the 3S I killed an enemy 3S who made the mistake of carrying SRM-4s instead of Streaks. My Streaks made short work of him while he couldn't get a good hit on me with his SRMs due to my speed and size. Then I managed to finish off a limping Cataphract. Survived the round with a good amount of damage dealt.

Then in the 1V I don't remember what the first kill was but the second kill was a Quickdraw. His center torso was open but he took out my legs so I turned to face him and fired everything into his CT. I managed to see him explode before one of his friends took out my other leg. The Locust may be small and weak by normal standards but I still took one of them down with me.

in my 1v i usually get 1 or 2 kills, but my proudest feat was tying up a battlemaster, shadowhawk, spider and quickdraw for a full 2 minutes, stalling them until my backup could slaughter them, winning the match. I died, but I died well.

The Phoenix Variant makes me cry inside. I wish it were the LCT-3M(P) instead. I would pay an extra $10 to change that.

My 3M is a pure support role, with TAG, 2xAMS (2000 rounds), and four lasers. I regularly get support kills on half the enemy team, multiple tag/narc + compounding spotter bonuses, and I completely shut down all enemy missile fire.

Shutting down enemy missile fire encourages me to stay with Assault teams to defend them while waiting for an opening to attack a weakened enemy's Internals. Then, I end up still being fast enough to be able to redeploy to assist pinned Allies whom are under missile fire too.

I can still drop [newly buffed] Artillery and Airstrikes to round things out.

Did that for the energy build others can keep standard hs.

Favorite match yet - erll, advanced zoom, priority artillery strike priority airstrike

550 damage 3 kills :)
(not sure, but one of the kills, an enemy locust, was damaged and killed by one of the strikes).
I'll not claim I used the erll to do all the damage, but I used the erll, advanced zoom combo to graze people's cockpits... they started backing off *towards* the arty strike behind them. VERY satisfying! I've been using the locust to hide inside the wreckage of dead mechs, powered down. wait for an enemy to pass, power up, zap them in the back and then fade. Power down in the water, etc. Favorite hiding place? amongst the boxes by the ship in forest colony, or in the burning piles littered around river city.
