i keep thinking of a catapult when i see it though, the legs the cockpit ct and even the shoulder joints are taken from the missle rack joints of a catapult... is it just me seeing too much catapult in that design?

The legs are Cataphract legs (four toes, not three like the CPLT), and he pulled some other cues from the 'Phract--which fits, because canonically, the Cataphract was built from random parts in a captured Marauder factory.

you must be perfect in skinning 3D models. so many small details... i like em.

at first I wanted to do it in zbrush, but there wasn't enough time, actually its all painted in photoshop, none of it is 3d. Im glad that my perspective was tight enough that it got mistaken for 3d though, thanks again!

Thanks a lot for organizing this contest and thanks to those who also put up money for the prizes, there have been some really cool submissions to come out of all this.
Here is my submission, I had a lot of fun working on it:

Damn, thats awesome Marauding !
I love all the things. Legs are great, arms, torso, everything.
Only thing I'd like to see different is the cockpit. Maybe have another "window" on the top part, where the two "grips" are.
If these two "pipes" on the lower legs would be 90° turned they would be similar to the "shock absorbers" of the highlander. (similar to the single one behind the food angle).

Damn that must have taken a lot of time. These details are great. Did you only use digital graphics, or started drawing on paper for this?

ResidentCrow.... OMG... Dude that's perfect.

Don't worry about views man that single viewport is menacing. And we have plenty of players who use mechs with limited views now to great effect. ShadowHawks for example.

Great job I hope you win/won!

If I was to choose the winners, I would choose Marcobra's, ResidentCrow's and Shimmering Sword's.

There are other great jobs, including Bishop Steiner's, Dadrick's, Fherot's and Hammur's.

Please, please, please OP, do a Warhammer contest after this one.

Just submitted my entry, it's exciting to see so many different takes on the mech.

My humble attempt:

After looking at everyone else's pictures I realized my size was off and the mech was a tiny thing lost in background...

This contest is really going to be tough since I like a few of the designs. Others I like some of the features that each person put into it. All I can say is good job everyone and lets hope that PGI sees this and tries to push forward on a Marauder coming to MWO.

I really like the entries to this competition, but one thing I don't get, specifically in regards to Shimmy's submission: Why does everyone always complain about how supposedly chunky his MAD looks? It's a heavy 'mech. The key word there is heavy, and the original Marauder was a terribly skinny chicken walker, barely looking fit to hold a fusion engine in it's thin torso, whereas Shimmy's looks suitably able to hold all the ammo for the AC plus the fusion engine, and still be armored enough to protect it's innards. I don't see it being chunky as a bad thing, but I always see it listed as a complaint. The original 'mech was very ungainly in it's aesthetic, I always thought his was more appropriately...buff; more vehicular in style, really. Just my two cents, of course.

Agreed. His design is much more realistically-proportioned.

I tried to condense all the submissions and concepts I tried to condense them into one page. There may have been a few I missed, but as I was working at this for the last three hours or so figuring out how to get it all working right I will get to the missed ones later. IqfishLP I know yours is not a submission, but I needed the laugh. [Redacted] you multiquote system!

If we have to have something that's unlike both the Unseen and the Project Phoenix TRO Marauders, I find that I dislike ResidentCrows' submission the least. It's already done in an MW:O fashion, and is different enough that nobody would get their legal panties in a bunch. The things on the legs need to go as they don't seem to serve any purpose, but otherwise it's pretty much good to go.

I still very much prefer the Project Phoenix TRO Marauder to any submission though.

TBH both leg designs in MWO are very simillar, the phracts are just slightly slimmer where as the pult's have fat shins or something. anyway's i know it's rude but copy and paster is something i can't stand in designs even in lore or real life. homologinisation has only one purpose ease of manufacture on mass. it's always been a compromise which is like taking away the spices of life. yeah i have a thing against such concepts, my bad.

meanwhile...

Here's my humble take on a Marauder. It's based off the Bounty Hunter's model 3044:
Posted Image There were design elements I liked from both the original unseen, and Shimmering Sword's concept, though I'm a little worried I might have borrowed from the designs that inspired me too much. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Updated a bit after doodling around the concept on a trainride...

i removed the cannon, since i am having issues drawing it in that perspective without even knowing what it should look like... may need to do separate sketches first, then retry... also, i did not bother with the legs, i suck at mech legs... will try another time... ^_^'

I will most likely miss the deadline anyway, but this is a nice practice to get me back into drawing and stuff... :)

*edit*
hmmm... i may need to make the cockpit part flatter and the torso overall a bit shorter...
