Anyone ever think what MWO would be like if it had Planetside/Planetside 2 scale battles?

- A hundred mechs on the same battlefield
- Playing as infantry trying to bring down a mech
- Tracers and lasers everywhere
- LRMs blotting out the sun (maybe)
- Mechs vs Planes

Just some of my musings. It's never going to happen but a nerd can dream right? :(

I'm assuming you've never played Planetside, which actually had mechs in it. They had customisable weapons and so on and were generally the most hated feature in the game ever, because they rolled everything with no team required. They were the reason many, many of the subscribers left the game.

The problem was simple. A single guy spawned himself a BFR and voilá, not even an entire coordinated team could bring him down. That's not good in a game about coordination and many players and is also one of the reasons Planetside 2 isn't the best FPS game ever made (as it threw these concepts through the window and instead went for BF-esque vehicles and mechanics... which are designed to compensate for the small number of players on the battlefield compared to RL where the machinery itself requires those 32 people to operate).

Mechs in Battlefield 2142 was a lot of fun.

I think a better mashup would be Star Citizen and MWO. The mechs could fulfill the planetary combat aspect in Star Citizen. There would have to be some serious lore rewriting, reboots, parallel universes, etc, but it could be done. And they use the same engine to boot.

Plus, you could use your Aurora as a dropship to get to the fight.

Is called "MechWarrior Living Legends!"

You mean like UCGO ?

Where you spend 10 minutes moving from spawn to frontline, dies and eject, spend 30 minutes to run back to spawn on foot to get a new mech.

It will only get too laggy. Our current PC power won't enable it. Just remember, the bulk of the graphics processing isn't on the background but on the avatars themselves, whether its a mech, starship or infantry soldier.

The better way to enable massed wars, would be to movve all graphics processing into the cloud. Your console or PC becomes nothing more than a viewing terminal with the graphics results being streamed from the cloud servers, which itself is going to be like some supercomputer with large scale massive parallel processing, with thousands of GPUs.

Anyway, there is also Titanfall.
