I normally run a Catapult-K2, but I was messing around in the Mech Builder I came up with a pretty good build for a Boar's Head. I know it has an XL Engine, but with the lasers you strip off the armor and then use the LB-10x to tear up the internals. Any Thoughts?

This is pretty dam hot but solid DPS if you can control it
I find my self overheating with just 4 medium pulse and 15 doubleheatsinks

If you swap out the large pulse lasers to normal large lasers you can fit in 19 doubleheatsinks in and have a extra tonn for armor (0 slots left)

You could try 21 double heatsinks with 6 medium pulse lasers and lb 10x with 45 ammo

but if it works for your then do what works

I don't plan to purchase a Boar's Head, like I said I run a Catapult-K2. I guess I was just imaging what a Marauder load-out might be like (the Marauder is the one mech I would spend $40 or more on) Anyway, you are right it might be a little too hot, but the focused DPS of all Pulse Lasers to give fast access to the internals for the LB-10x was my goal with the build. However, I think extra heatsinks might work better for sustainability.

yea probably never gonna buy one either

but you are missing out on the extra range on the large pulse and 8 damage total but the 6 medium pulse should make up for it with its lower heat and faster firerate

Marauder would be pretty nice though

Heres a dual Lb 10x catapult k2 build (i want a catapult :( ]
It is risky because of the xl engine but if you can manage to tear off the armor the lb 10x's will make quick work of internals

My only critique is that you should move that ammo out of the side torso and put it into the head and legs. Heads are hard to hit and it's the first place ammo gets pulled from, and pretty much no one goes for the legs on a big mech. If your side torso gets the armor stripped off you could easily get your ammo critted and be done, especially with MGs common on Locusts , Spiders, Jagers, and a few other niche builds.

Yea cockpit and leg ammo is usually what i do :D

but the more 'padding' (other items taking critical slots) you have the less chance there is of that item being destroyed

If you put 2 tonns of ammo in the legs thats a 20% chance for it to get crite'd and its the only item in that slot so it kinda becomes worse if someone does decide to shoot your legs

Over a 10% chance spread out among hardpoints with padding

Either way works and both have advantage and disadvantage

Revised

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...fd3449633dd11b0

1. Screw pulse lasers. The heat generated isn't worth it.
2. Drop the XL engine. As an atlas you need to be able to zombie. Even with half your mech blown off at the shoulder you still got a LL, 2ML and maybe an AC20. You need to continue doing damage to the end.
3. You don't that much back armour unless you spent a lot of time running away from the enemy.
4. LB10X is just dumb. Why bother criting the internals when an AC20 can destroy it?

Alternatively you can consider this a more close quartered oriented design by swapping the Large Lasers with Medium Lasers and adding more Heat sinks and AC/20 ammo.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d026afbd10b64fa

The engine sizes given are a rough guide. You don't really benefit much from moving at 65kph as opposed to 60kph. That's just an acceptable move speed. For an assault mech you'll only really feel it when you start moving above 70KPH and be really imba at 80KPH. Your role is just to soak up damage and deal out as much direct DPS fire as possible so no one dares to face you. Quite literally.

BOAR'S HEAD

You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit in to the wind
You don't pull the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger
and You don't put an XL engine in an Atlas

You would die first, you would die fast, and with all that heat, you'd probably die helpless and shutdown with less than 100 damage for the match.

I'm not trying to flame you or be overly harsh, but you asked if we had any thoughts, and that build is really really bad. Wouldn't want you to spend $35 and end up disappointed :D
