We played around 9 games with my friend today. 7 of those were Terra Therma. No hyberbole, not exaggerating. He said to me "I'm going to film the next startup and if it's Terra Therma again, I'll quit and uninstall the game." No multiple takes, no setting up, and here you go:

It's in finnish, but basically he says "I'm playing MWO, and if the map is Terra Therma, I'm going to uninstall this game and never play it again." - followed by lots of swearing. NSFW if you're finnish.

But wouldn't you also moan if you never got chance to play new maps, and when you did they had unfixed issues for a long time due to lack of data and bug reports?

TT isn't weighed that heavily anymore, it's just random chance. Generally, with new maps, they get weighed heavier in order to offer more testing.

Honestly, if TT were a cold map, people would love it. There's a lot to like about it, particularly if you don't all simply "go to the middle"

I like Terra Therma, but I agree that it IS biased. At least for certain circumstances (maybe it's certain mechs or mode or ELO weight or something).

Here is my maps stats for Locust. It's almost fresh account. I only played 15 matches in trial mechs on it before, collecting Cadet Bonus (I don't remember mechs, it was in time when trial mechs gave you no XP) and forgot it until the Locust release. Then I started grinding Locusts on it. 128 matches in Locusts for now, 125 of them Assault (I always drop in Assault when solo, but played with a premade a little who were dropping in Conquest as well).

So for a total of 128 matches (previous 15 matches were played when map and mode stats were not being recorded yet) we have:
25 Terra Therma
19 Crimson Strait
19 River City - Combined (Smog+Night)
17 Canyon Network
17 Frozen City - Combined (Blizzard+Night)
13 Tourmaline Desert
11 Forest Colony - Combined (Rain+Snow)
10 River City Night
09 River City Smog
09 Frozen City Blizzard
08 Frozen City Night
08 Forest Colony Snow
05 Caustic Valley
03 Forest Colony Rain
02 Alpine Peaks

Actually I like Terra Therma, Crimson Strait and Tourmaline Desert (and I welcome increasing the weight of the one newest map, which in this case is Crimson Strait), so it's not a "whine because I hate most probable maps". And if we count both variants of River, Forest and Frozen as a single map, it looks not terribly unfair distribution for them (also those maps are old and smaller and people may be bored of them). I'm mostly upset because of Alpine, less so of Caustic. It is not a random distribution and it's too much of Terra Therma.

I remember that at least one of my matches on Alpine was with a premade (and it was Conquest). If second was too, this can mean that solo Locust never gets on Alpine, at least in Assault mode.

The rotation is biased. But remember, if you don't like a map you just played, wait a good 2 minutes before hitting launch again once the game is over. The server you just played on is available and scouting for players once your game ends. Waiting a few minutes prevents you from being sucked into its queue.

I enjoy all the maps, and like many I enjoy some more than others. At the same time I have seen certain maps a lot more than others:
  • 38 Forest Colony
  • 26 Frozen City
  • 27 Caustic Valley
  • 42 River City
  • 37 Forest Colony Snow
  • 36 Frozen City Night
  • 30 River City Night
  • 35 Alpine Peaks
  • 50 Tourmaline Desert
  • 52 Canyon Network
  • 62 Terra Therma
  • 39 Crimson Straight
I really enjoy Terra Therma, so I don't mind the high number of drops I get for it. I just really miss Caustic Valley.

127 Forest Colony
147 Frozen City
153 Caustic Valley
165 River City
145 Forest Colony Snow
158 Frozen City Night
128 River City Night
188 Alpine Peaks
250 Tourmaline Desert
184 Canyon Network
095 Terra Therma
028 Crimson Strait

The map bias is kind of silly when you bring up your profile stats. And I've been playing since the CB.

Straight from the files (thx to Jman5)

that means TT only has a chance of around 12%, that is 1 in 10.

I only ever see this happen on TT. I very nearly disconnected as well after the 4th one, there's really no point in playing at that point.

I really hate TT, not for the heat just for the layout. Runner up is Tourmaline, because this:
269 Alpine Peaks
242 Canyon Network
235 Caustic Valley
068 Crimson Strait
197 Forest Colony
217 Forest Colony Snow
231 Frozen City
210 Frozen City Night
221 River City
216 River City Night
124 Terra Therma
447 Tourmaline Desert

Here is what it should be:

Forest Colony 5.55%
Forest Colony Snow 5.55%
Frozen City 5.55%
Frozen City Night 5.55%
River City 5.55%
River City Night 5.55%
Alpine Peaks 11.11%
Canyon Network 11.11%
Caustic Valley 11.11%
Crimson Strait 11.11%
Terra Therma 11.11%
Tourmaline Desert 11.11%

Edit: Saw NamesAreStupid's post. That's close to what it should be (AP is weighted 1 and should be 2), but we know for a fact that it isn't working that way. Unless that's a lot of stealth changes in the latest patch (they only mentioned bumping Caustic Valley).

Where are the map variants? Its really pretty silly not to add some in, most of the work is already done and it would add greatly to the replay value of the maps. Even if it was just the time of day and the weather fx it would make them much less tiring. Hell add in 2 or three more variants of each map.

When I first bought my Orion K, which I equip with a fairly toasty 4xERLL, I got terra for 10 of the first 11 matches that I played :)

Mmm, its not that.

What we want is to select our maps in order to fully customize the Mech for that map, loadout and camo included.

That's a complaint about random maps in general over map bias though.

So basically you're wanting information that allows you to take the exact perfect build, loadout, chassis, and even color scheme and camo every single game......
