1. Egotistical, stats driven player:
"WAAAH, he stole my kill, I`m going to disco and whine on the forums"
2. Intelligent, team-oriented player
"He stole my kill... meh, I get more cash this way anyway, I really should only be tagging and ERLL trolling now that I really think about it"

My lancemates and I have a saying "doesn't matter as long as everyone's pulling the trigger and the ****er dies".
Doesn't matter if it's my MGs AC10 and 2 LLs that drops someone, or if it's the Cataphract's big 20, making the pilot of our enemy calling Dateline to schedule an interview with Chris Hansen.
I'll get accused of Kill stealing, when in reality, myself and my buddies were probably banging on another enemy mech who was flanking our assault mech (who is probably in another lance) and just dropped it, and then we turn to see a nice fresh exposed juicy bit... and then we reach out and touch it.
This is why Fraps is such a handy program to have. It really does help enlighten things that might have been going on, on your radar that you didn't see, or in your peripheral vision at the time.

sorry but there are forms as such, face hugging opponants even if you're firing er LLs or gauss has been done to secure kills or the fire support teamate racks up a TK on what they were shooting at before the face hugger arrived. that's where my TK's come from saddly, i have no remorse for shooting people in the back if they're trying to so desperately lift their KDR by running infront of friendly fire, do it at your own risk.
it's a tough problem encouraging team play and manipulating pilots behavior to not stand back and let someone else take all the flack so you can face a weakened enemy. it does happen, some pride themselves on being on the wrong side of the map using 20% of their firepower whilst the rest of their team have been mauled as tons of weapons and ammo decided not to support them in the most effeciant way possible but instead fumble for half the match and then claim the last 3-5 broken opponants and then claim skillz afterwards.
it's hard to make a system that encourages teamplay and more importantly backing your friends up rather than using your team as meatshields. premading is so far the best solution but for pugz nobody can understand what's going on let alone how to help so they feel they shouldn't take anyrisks when they feel noboy's going to be around to help them. we need intergrated VOIP for more organisation and trust amongest everyone in game playing. until then people will just look out for number 1, that's the way it's always been and that's how it's going to be...

I still don't get (and it makes me furious) why there are no capping bonuses in conquest. Assault I understand, but conquest....where you have to stand in a frikkin box for minutes, you don't get {Scrap} for it, at all. Totally mindboggling.
Thats why I don't play conquest at all anymore. XP and c-bill wise assault yields 20% more than conquest, plus matches are 30% shorter. So why play conquest??
out of 5,000 games since updated stats only 100 have been for conquest... because the rewards are {scrap}.
There is no kill stealing, it's all kill helping. That's like saying, ' hey, don't shoot your weapons at the enemy because I'm a greedy lil prik. ' I'm not going to stop shooting. Dezgra where I come from, and we do double team.

Ok so i got tired of reading this thread somewhere around page 3. But honestly, why isnt damage taken tracked (and possibly rewarded*) in match? I like being the pinanta sometimes just to see how low i can go
.* reward based on % for example.
It kind of is.
Kill and kill assist xp per mech target is about 200 I think. If you did 60% of the damage that mech took but did not kill it! you would get 120 xp for that dead mech as kill assist xp. If you did 40% of the damage and got the kill, you would get 80 kill xp plus maybe a small bonus for the kill shot.

He's talking about damage you take. And I do kind of like the idea of a little reward for finishing the game as a red centre torso, one red leg and a red head without actually dying.
