To switch to Steiner at launch aside from the Atlas scouts and the Battletech cartoon show lol.

Really can't decide between you guys and Rasalhague!

Choose what you want, really. :(

If you want to play as the underdog with everything going downhill, then Rasalhague.
If you want to first prosper and then start going downhill, then Steiner.

Start as the FRR. Then, when the Clans rip you to shreds, join Steiner. Then, when she-who-shall-not-be-honored-with-a-name takes over, join someone else. Probably the Clans at that point.

Will factions actually have differences like this? or is this just an rp thing?

If the latter than Sorry for ruining it with the question

RP, only difference in the game should be different names for the same things, different position on the map and different prices of mechs.

Actually in Dev Blog 1 there is a short blurb about "global bonuses and abilities associated with the player's Faction" in the part regarding rewards for controlling planets. That could mean many different things, but it implies that there will be more differences than map locations.

Availybility of variants is also something that sounds possible. Could be just a difference in price however.

Better of starting with the worst faction as per your "opening day" specifications.

3-6 months in they will be counter-balanced and roll over everyone.

I'm Steinter, sure. I love them the most In-Character... but man.. Liao. The underdog.. Even FASA uber-munch counter-balanced then for 3058+.. it even got hella worse in the 3060's... TSM Axe mecha..... Optimal tonnage curve high-speed XL mecha....
and lots of them.

Stick with the Republic.

We don't have stinky social generals, we get the best of both Steiner and Kurita (and ComStar and, eventually, Clan Ghost Bear), plus even hotter blonde chicks, even better skiing, mead, and aquavit.

And, best of all, we never have to pretend to like that shill Victor Steiner-Davion (or any other Stackpolian marisoo) or his psychotic sister (or any other Stackpolian cartoonishly inept, hyper-evil villains). (Instead, we get to hate Marisoo Phelan Kell and Cartoonishly Inept, Hyper-Evil Villain Vlad Ward. With a vengeance!)

Indeed.

Of all the "successor kids", which state got the best deal? [Kurita, but it's tie with Liao; although pyshcotic and freaky, he was quite effective...]

I mean... who doesn't LIKE Theodore Kurita? Cmon! "Screw daddy, I'm my own man. Give me the worst ya got, I'll make em kick but (Legion of Vega)"

Victor wanted to be a daddy-clone.
Sun-Tzu was better than daddy, but still a clone of his psychotic tendencies.

I just realized how true this is.

They develop the first indigenous Spheroid OmniMechs. They, post-Op Bulldog, lose the least territory to the Clans, and most of the territory they don't get back was originally territory they were supposed to return to self-rule, per their agreement with ComStar. They have their own home-grown regiments of Wolf's Dragoons. They are not ruled by a psychotic dictator nor a tool of foreign interests. They do not suffer a massive, genocidal civil war. Oh the whole, the Draconis Combine does pretty well for themselves, despite their history of being the whipping boys of House Davion.
