We've got space pirates and space ninjas. Oh, and vampire pirates...just kidding about that last one, but seriously.

Vindicator Vindicator Vindicator...

In the Introductory Box Set Catalyst just published for BTech the tutorial fight it suggests is a Vindicator vs a Hunchback on a single Mapsheet. Every single time I have played it, it goes like this:

Vindicator scores a hit! And another hit! And another! The Hunchback just can't keep up! With the range and speed advantage the Vindicator looks like a sure wi- Oops, the Hunchback finally got within AC/20 range.

Hunchback Victory.

I've always been underwhelmed by the Vindicator...much like the Capellan Confederation of old. The new-ish CapCon in the 3060s did things to change my opinion of them a bit.

I feel like this forum has gotten a bit busier now that unit preregistration is going on...odd.

I've never been a fan of Mediums that try to mount two main weapon systems, like the Vindicator. It has an AC/10 and a LL, which gives it a lot of firepower, but keeps it from actually being, you know, good. The AC/10 weighs too much for there to be enough heat sinks for the LL, and while the firepower both bring to bear is good, it can't consistently fire both of them without having massive heat issues. It tries to do too much.

It is not ammo dependent, it's mid range, it's fairly fast, it can jump, it has good firepower, but it does all of those things fairly poorly. Not for me, thanks.

So, I just realized I was thinking of the Enforcer this whole time... HA! The Vinidcator can actually handle its heat load fine.

PPC and LRM-5 backed up by ML and SL. It can handle the heat, but, IDK, it just feels...meh...

Never used one myself, but it seems okay. I actually included it as the medium in my 3025 lance. Have it painted up and everything, but haven't gotten to play it yet.

My lance is:
Zeus
Quickdraw
Enforcer
Commando

If I'd been thinking yesterday, I might have tried to squeeze a Grasshopper into that lance (not sure what I would have replaced, though...I'm really glad I had the Warhammer). Ironically, many of my preferred 3025 'mechs have a FedSuns bent to them.

For 3025, I might go:
VTR-9B Victor
GHR-5H Grasshopper
PXH-1D Phoenix Hawk
JVN-10F Javelin

Wow, I just realized that's something on the order of a dozen medium lasers on those 4 'mechs.

Yeah, I bet you are glad you had that Warhammer, grumble grumble grumble...

Anyway, I like that Lance I had:

Awesome
Phoenix Hawk
Shadow Hawk
Zeus

But I need to, you know, not take a Zeus, ever. The thing was just dead weight. I might replace it with a Charger 1A5 or a Grasshopper myself.

Let's see, double boxcars to kill your Awesome on the first shot, ammo explosion on your Zeus, and I'm pretty sure it finished off the Shadow Hawk mid-DFA. That 'mech had three of my kills, or did the Victor finish off the SHD?

Let's explain this to the viewers at home.

We're playing Battletech, the miniatures game MechWarrior is based on, and his Warhammer takes a shot at my Awesome.

He only has an 11% chance to hit the Awesome, but he pulls it off.

Then he manages to hit the head, which is a 3% chance.

THEN he critical hits the head so hard it comes completely off, another 3% chance.

This is literally a 1 in 10,000 shot. (0.0099% Chance of this happening.)

But I don't remember who killed who. I just remember it going very poorly for me. Very very poorly. Stupid Warhammer.

On the plus side, your Phoenix Hawk pilot lived to fight another day...pilot...just the pilot...

I feel like usually, when I play battletech, somebody involved usually gets a lucky shot along those lines. There was one time my only assault OmniMech got its face blown off by a gauss rifle at 20 hexes, had to roll a 12 to hit, then rolled 12 for hit location.

But anyway, there's another challenge this weekend how many wins do you all have so far?

I'm not sure I'll even get to 10...I haven't gotten to log in the last couple of days. On the plus side, we got our kitchen unpacked, now we just have the rest of the house to go. Maybe tonight. :D

Our Charlie Company (The Dark Horse Company) has open slots for competitive game play. SIGN UP NOW!!!

Just kidding, we don't have a competitive gameplay company. Drop with who you've got. The other part is true, though...you should join up.

Wow, Nikolai's posts of "This unit has been claimed for pre-registration" pushed us all the way to page 3.
