There's a MWO IRC channel that people hang out in for giggles... the link is in a thread in the General Discussion section.

I was thinking of the difference between plotting a way-point and telling everyone to go there vs plotting a battle position, click the line or wedge or diamond formation button and them place it where you want that lance to go. If we are going to be getting xp for following orders I don't want all of us to have to be within 100m of a way point, nor do I want the commander to have to try to plot separate way-points for each mech. He should be fighting the Company and the lance commanders fighting their lances.

[BRYAN] All Ranked matches affect the Inner Sphere. We are considering several options for non-ranked matches, such as a practice server for players to test out tactics and BattleMech builds.

First off, sorry if this has already been covered. MWO has released a lot of information (which is good) and the forums are active, so there is a lot to search through.
I wanted to ask how the open matches will be work. One of the strongest aspects of Mechwarrior for me was the community. There are many older Mechwarrior players coming out of the wood work interested in MWO. I'm used to playing on servers that are persistent in the sense that I'll join a server and play on it all evening. That helps develop a community. You get to know the other players since you play drop after drop with them, you make a list of favourite servers you like to play on, and you can join the same server as your buddies to play with (or against!) them. Contrast that with say (just a random example) World of Tanks where the matches pull together players at random, and you can play all evening and not see the same player twice. So joining up with your buddies is one thing, but it's also important to play against the same players often, too (so that you can make buddies).
So my question would be how will the open games work? And my suggestion is for the whole experience to be something like what we have been used to in the past playing on servers provided by units at NBT or MWL, which helps to foster a community, which I think is important.

Since adding in clans is something we can not avoid, could you (the devs) create servers that limit the tech level.... for instance, have 'Classic' Servers that only has IS vs IS at the base tech level, or even do 3025 mechs and tech.
You can go further and also do stuff like FF on and FF off servers till the Devs feel to go one way or another...or even keep two servers for each game type.
Obviously I am unsure about banwidth and if this would be possible or practical from the Dev's standpoint, but I know there are alot of people who want to play clan and those that don't. I also don't know how you guys will work the match-maker once clan tech/mechs comes out due to it's inherent advantages.
Discuss, brainstorm, dismantle, respond...
