Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this...I looked around and this seems like the best spot, anyways;

What is the point of camo if we can not even know ahead of time what sort of enviroment we are about to battle in?
Camo DOES matter!
Ever spot an enemy mech through a long rang zoom reticul that is protected by ECM? It can"t be targeted because it can't be detected but, that doesn't mean you can't see it with your own eyes. You can even fire a PPC or Large Lazer at it!
Ofcourse this scenario is much more likely to occur if the enemy mech is wearing, say, Apple Jack.

This scenario is much less likely to occur if the enemy mech just happened to be in Frozen City and just happened to be wearing, say, Titanium White and Gunmetal Gray Dazel.

Now imagin if the enemy mechs pilot knew he was about to battle on Tera Therma before he and his mech were comitted to the match. Suddenly Hot Rod might acctualy be a decent choice of camo! (as a side note; he may also choose a more heat efficient mech)

I'm not in the millitary of any kind but I'll bet that NO SOLIDER EVER GOES INTO COMBAT DELIBERATLY WEARING CAMO THAT CLASHES WITH THE AREAS ENVIROMENT!

ie- urban block in the city, woodland in the forest, mountain line in alpine peaks, ect. ect.

With the widely diverse enviroments that a mech can and does do battle in it is virtualy impossible to find a universaly affective camo theme.
Do you hear me on this?

If we can't choose our battle ground can we at least have a chance to prepare? Otherwise what realy is the point of the ready button?!

We supposedly get the ability to "vote" for the map we want to play with (or after) UI 2.0, alongside a real gamelobby and all.
And we are said to see wich map comes up before the game starts in that lobby, where we can choose the 'mech we'd like to play.

That may not all be there when UI2.0 comes but they said it will be eventually.
So ... patience.

On a side note, though: all 'mechs are the same black/dark grey for me when looked at on distancecs greater than say, 700meter. Colour doesn't play as much role as shape in indentifying what that big lump in my zoom is.

Vanity, nothing more.

where did you hear this? I recall the devs being very plain about "selecting maps or even knowing which map was coming" wouldn't happen as people would start selecting prime mechs for that map. Terra Therma, no energy builds. etc.

I usually sport my unit's "unofficial" colors... Midnight Blue, Goluboy (or Prussian or Hellblau), and PC Gamer Gray (or anything looking like Silver)... who needs camo to blend in when you don't want to blend in to begin with?!? LOL! No really... it'd be nice sometimes to know which type of map and such etc... we will in time though once UI2.0 is released.

I think it was mentioned in one of the ATDs, not sure though. Might be wishful thinking alltogether. Too lazy to look it up now and not enough interest to do so anyway. When it comes, it comes. Until then we have to live with what we have.

The point of camo is for you to spend money on it.

I guess the unit colouring in Battletech is more like the uniforms of soldiers during Napoleon's era:
A friend or foe indicator more than something that make you hidden in the background, letting your infantry know who to shoot even without the HUD IFF systems in the midle of a chaotic battle.

I think map choice is a very bad idea, since it will lead to less variety and more focused builds (boats), meaning boring gameplay.
However, if they would allow for making several skins for your mech and assigning the different camo sets to different maps, that should resolve the problem.

Also would earn the developers more money, since one would need varied colours to adapt to maps.
