I was hoping the phoenix pack would give me a light I could play with the loyalty bonus, but I guess it isn't so... thanks so much for picking the most worthless variant...

Without MW3 or MW4 MG's, of course its garbage.
My personal best was 49 damage with 2 MG's and 1 ML. That's off the charts yo.

They only picked that variant as the one with the bonus because it's the prime variant. Same with the founder mechs. Again, this info was posted on the phoenix page (once revealed) so you knew that going in.
There's not much you can do with it, but some people have turned their Locusts into snipers.

They just register like they should... unlike on some other "not to be named" mech.

This is basically how a light mech should be when it comes to fighting capability except for special designs like Jenner built around the notion of attack. But it also expects tonnage/BV, roles, useful scouting and such... and that's not present in this game.

If only there was a light ballistic weapon that could be used...

LOCUST LCT-1V 8 5 3 1.67 7 5 1.40 1,141 12,924 00:41:21
8 matches
5 wins
3 losses
1.67 win ratio

8 matches, 1141 dmg for roughly 150 average
This is mostly in pugs, I think maybe 2 matches were in a premade.

Don't encourage Locusts to stand still and snipe, it ends just as badly when you get PPC and Gauss to the face.
I have been using this. I set up in a place they can't find me easy. Then they start looking around where that shot came from. Then I move to a new spot. In Crimson Strait, you can stand in the water on the far left of the Island and anything that comes around the buildings you can snipe. It's hard to see you half exposed in the water. When they see you, move. Tourmaline has so many high vantage points to go up to and sit up against the rock formations and snipe. Sometimes part of you is hidden by crystals sticking up from the ground. When they see you shooting them, time to move. Each map has a way to partially expose yourself till they see you. Caustic, any of the hills you can peek around on the left, then duck back while they look for that shot in the distance.
It's this or 4xMG and 1xML/MPL and run around a lot.

MW4 MG's were trash don't pretend otherwise MW3 were good though cause you could stack like mad. I just started using an AC2 with 2 tons of ammo (originally as a joke) and been averaging between 250-280 damage a match gotta be a good shot though max damage you can do is only 300

The Locust variants all feel like less useful versions of otber mechs to me. I have done ok a few times with them, but for the same effort I could have had a great game in a Jenner or Spider.

If you play your cards right, you can sometimes get up to 45-50 damage. After a few games, you may even have the 10,000 C-bills you need to afford a third MG.
Anyway. What Adridos said.

Or you play on Conquest, cap for the first 3 points, avoid the enemy lights, wait for your team to engage the opponents, then don't be stupid and become a force multiplier with your speed, 4mg and a mlas can turn the tide on close calls for your allies. If you show yourself singly then of course you are dead fast, if you make them choose between shooting something deadly and you, they rarely pick you unless you are standing still.
