Fails to obfuscate? Why would they want to obfuscate it? :)

Instantly recognizable by the forward swept wing design, the Stingray (nicknamed the Slantback) is a prized fighter in the Inner Sphere. An experimental fighter just before the fall of the Star League with a wing design based upon a 21st century Terran conventional fighter, the Stingray is found among House Steiner and House Marik forces, although every Successor State has a few of the nimble fighters in inventory. Noted for maneuverability and stability, the Stingray is not fast but is deadly with it's heavy armament.
Armament

A Hellion-b II Medium Laser and Hellion-a III Large Laser fill out each wing, while the massive Sunspot PPC is mounted in the nose. This gives the Stingray great long range firepower, the PPC perfect for attacking grounded DropShips or armor.

To Obfuscate: to hide your true intent... They are developing a new version of the fighter with new weapon load out. So they were trying to obfuscate the new version.

No it does not. Just like mentions of traveling "Pleasure Circuses" in another news flash do not mean we may see prostitutes in the game at some time. These news flashes are there merely to give background to the game, give it some life.

That being said, airstrikes were mentioned as a commander ability, so Stingray's could be the deliverer...or another fighter. It's doubtful there will be one type for each faction.

Adridos: you know how it is with military R&D. Prototypes go 'missing' or mysteriously explode, design teams 'resign' or 'commit suicide' en masse, 'industrial accidents' are distressingly common on testing grounds, design schematics have a quite remarkable tendency to 'wander off' despite being shut in a triple locked and guarded vault...all the usual minor inconveniences that tend to bedevil such projects once they're common knowledge.

Only if we get the Canopian Pleasure Circus first.

With Andurien Aerotech making use of advanced technology to upgrade its already popular aerospace designs, the new F-92 Stingray produced at their Andurien and Oriente facilities switches to Double Heat Sinks to cool the pair of Hellion-a III ER Large Lasers and Magna Sunspot ER PPC replacing their older standard counterparts.

If i had to say i would make a gues that they will be somewher in the game but not player controlled. For instance as mentioned calling air strikes. And if you look at okder MW games they are all there but you dont get to fly them. as far back as MW2 if i remember.

May I ask the practicality of applying our definition to a word being used a 1000 years into the future?

Language is fluid.
