Mechs like awesome are ment to be energy brawlers .

Why not just replace his "Master Module Skill" with something to fill that need.

For example

"Overdrive" - increases power of heatsinks by 10% for 10 seconds . It works like a permanent consumable skill that recharges every 60 seconds .

Candidates: Awesome,Novacat . Any mech with 3 varients build around energy slots .

"Thrust upgrade" (as in pilot modified his missile ammo) - increases travel speed of LRMs and SRMs by 20%.

Candidates: Catapult,Stalker. Any mech that utilizes large ammount of missiles.

"Engine Tweak"-additionaly to speed tweak increases maximum speed by 10% but decreases acceleration by 20% ..

Candidates: made for mechs like raven with low engine caps .

suggested in many AtDs, even a Dev agreed this would only help make the game better and with more depth. Probably on a low priority list though and you will have to wait for CW and UI 2.0 before this happens. It's a good idea though.

This is a brilliant idea; it takes the Master Skills slot and adds new capabilities or properties to a unit which has attained the Master level. In short it's a reward. I would go one further and suggest that the current tree be expanded beyond Master; again to give us all something to aim for in the long term.

As for the new Master Module Skill replacements
I would like to see some way of improving armour above and beyond things like FF armour. Maybe other types, I seem to remember Laser Reflective, alternatively how about Anti Ballistic Hardened (ABH) LOL. Maybe 20% stronger than normal armour.

I like this idea a lot. Seeing as how I never have enough C-bills to waste on buying modules, my one extra module slot is an absolute waste for me. I'd much rather have a skill I could actually use.

The whole mech tree needs to be updated, and reusable skills like that, that can be activated like that should prove to be interesting.

Something beyond "Additional Module Slot" would be nice. I think I have a couple mechs Mastered that have gobs of unused XP. It would be cool to have something to spend it on moving forward.

In PGI's defense, I think there's more complicated trees on the drawing board, but it's not a real big priority compared to CW and UI 2.0.

I'd like to see both dramatic changes to the pilot tree and the inclusion of meaningful, non-experience based mech quirks.

For instance, the Awesome could have a quirk like this:

Improved Heat Pipes
The Awesome is renowned throughout the Inner Sphere for its extensive and highly efficient heat dissipation system.
Effect: Dissipation from all heat sinks increased by 20%, and heat scale count for all energy weapons increased by one.

and the Hunchback might have something like this:

Reinforced Torso
The Hunchback is designed for brutal, close range combat. To increase its effectiveness in a brawl, it has substantially more internal bracing in its torso than any other 'mech in the medium class.
Effect: Right torso internal structure increased by 50% (The HBK-4SP instead gets a 25% increase to both side torso areas).

I'm just tossing ideas around. I believe one of the developers stated they were considering both quirks and pilot skill overhauls to help rebalance some of the chassis in an old AtD. The existing pilot skill "tree" is lackluster at best.

I think armor modules would suit mechs like Atlas and Highlander to encourage them to take damage so their teammates can atack .

Right now Atlas is actually one of the easiest mechs to harass at range and they loose too much armor before they get to a fight .
