the fact that older mechwarrior games have more game modes than MWO is disappointing at best.
I mean PGI can look over all the campaigns of Mechwarrior and go "we can mod it and add it"

there are 5 basic game modes almost every game has out of the box:
Deathmatch
Team Deathmatch
CTF
Assault
Control Points
the fact that MWO only has 2 out of the 5 is hark-worthy

Beta ended awhile ago. I know, they're still adding a lot of stuff, so it can be hard to tell.
Somewhat more on topic, I've never really had a problem with the base getting capped early, or when team A has blasted team B to bits, and the last couple mechs manage to win it for team B with a cap. That certainly won't be a problem for team death match, if that's what we're getting. Like the OP says, it's a bit uncertain. I'm also not worried about having to play deathmatch, since we can already choose to play only assault, conquest, or both. A nice thought is that maybe they would give us a little drop down menu that would let us select which modes we wanted to play in, with check marks or some such.

I'm more concerned after reading the devnotes that DM is going to be 1v1. We need a bigger DM environment to cater for those that dislike the capping. The game needs to survive, and it stands a better chance if most people are happy.
As some of the posters above have expressed a desire for a 24 man free for all (could be a hoot-24 lights O_O) and a 4v4 lance format.
Couldn't hurt to ask PGI to do that for them-after all those modes can only add to the game, as long as each mode is selectable.
