Looks like a cool mouse Wouldn't I have to keep my thumb bent at a 90 degree angle in order to fire my weapons groups? That might start to hurt after a few hours. Plus there would be a delay in response time as my thumb clumsily searches for the right button to push. I might end up firing the wrong weapons group. Thanks for the suggestion. I will check it out!

The removal of the ability to fire a selected group is simply illogical and contradicts the prominence of the HUD indicator around the reticule showing which group is currently selected.

I have multiple firing buttons for simultaneously controlling different weapons, but also rely on changing weapon groups with my mouse wheel for my primary firing button to suit certain situations and to select groups that are exclusive of each other, for optimal effectiveness and ergonomics.

It's disturbing to contemplate the intent behind this change because it either demonstrates surprising incompetence in basic control mechanics, or a disdain toward established mechwarrior players and player choices if this is a misguided attempt to dumb down the game for consoles.

Yeah this. I fail to see why I should have to invest in a $50+ POS mouse on top of whatever hardware you already need to play the game... Not only that but Fire selected weapon has been the standard controll scheme in like very space sim ever... I mean I would LIKE a fancy mouse but why on earth would you design a game so only people with multi button mice can play easily...

The fact is the old way I could play with 6 groups on a 2 button mouse, using the mouse only to aim and fire, now I can only use 2 groups on my mouse.... this is less effective. I have to then contort my hand around the keyboard, getting RMI feeling for groups 3-6 possibly misfiring or set chain fire.

With the group indicator on the reticule knew what I was firing, it was intuitive...

There was no reason to take it out, put it back.

Correct, because logic dictates that a single click to fire a weapon group is more efficient than clicking to scroll to a different weapon group followed by a click to fire it.

One click... 2+ clicks...

It is not more efficient that you have to buy new things in order to continue doing things of which you were already capable.

I filed this ticket:

Howdy,

Love the game, and appreciate the constant refinement. However, the recent change removing the ability to fire a selected weapons group with mouse button 1 has effectively limited my ability to play the game. At this point it would force me to relearn a play style (and muscle memory) that is not only developed from MWO, but MechWarrior games before. To me this is like removing Y-axis inversion on a joystick.

I am fine with you making whatever default you want, but please restore an option to remap the left mouse to fire selected group. For now, I am going off to play COD Ghosts. I just can't make myself relearn combat right now.

Thank you in advance,

Robb

Lots of people use mixed range builds and standard mice. I agree with the poster who commented about trigger stability. If I am in my semi-stock Stalker-3F I would like the option of giving up the selected weapon group of PPCs or ER Lasers for SRMs once I reach 270 meters without having to use mouse3 or button 3.

It was hard to get used to at first because of MWO's abysmal Joystick support, but there are some things you can change in the .cfg to make it quite responsive, not mouse level, but close.

Thing is, being left handed, it worked MUCH better than a mouse for me, but I would switch to the mouse for sniping, for straight up brawling, it **WAS** a blast.

hmmm I'm left handed myself and am using a setup that is quite effective. Do you play on a laptop or on a standard keyboard?

Standard.

Going back as far as I remember, I've always used Joystick on the right and mouse on the left, then I was given a nostromo which replaced the mouse on the left except for fine movement.

So going left to right. 6 button mouse, Nostromo, Keyboard, Joystick. on 2 levels. Topside, Nostromo/Joystick, mouse/keyboard below.

It's a workout, but I'm effective with it.

More indepth information. Nostromo set for turning left right with lesser common functions (Override, toggle weapon group left/right. Center torso, consumables,Q, etc) Joystick set pitch/twist with Fire weapon group, R, vision modes on hat. JJ, ECM, Zoom, Adv Zoom on top buttons, throttle. base buttons are map, scoreboard, lesser used functions.

The reality is, while you may not want to learn a new way to play, YOU REALLY SHOULD, because your existing way described in the OP was really, really, really terrible.

You will be a better player from changing your controls.

2 button mouse is all you need. i never needed fire selected weapon {Scrap} and i have always used a 2 button mouse with this game(and use up to 6 weapon groups depending on the mech im using).

What I get: Not making it the default, and in fact, maybe even leaving it unassigned by default.
What I don't get: Why would you remove functionality some people like from the game?

well, here's my setup if you ever want to try it out:

Arrows : Throttle/left/right turn
RCtrl: look around
QASD: change weapon groups
LCtrl; Assign weapon group
Numpad 0 : Target
Numpad 1 : Full stop
Numpad 2: Info overlay
Numpad . : Hmm I don't remember but it's doing something
Mouse 1: Fire selected group (well, not anymore)
Mouse 2: Group 2
Delete: Group 3
End: Group 4
Page Down: Group 5
Home: Group 6
Backlash : toggle missile door
Backspace: toggle chainfire

Mouse button 3: Zoom
Mouse button 4: Advanced Zoom

Other keys for artillery and such on keybinds of your choice, I often suggest é on french keyboards, it's right next to "." if you have something similar. It's all extremly close to your arrows so you can always move around and have all your keys close to your right hand. Mouse in left hand of course. It's also pretty comfortable to use.

Chat, team chat, lance chat are the default keys.

This really does nothing more than raise the ugly question of PGI's competence all over again, doesn't it?

I'll keep that in mind.

Right now I'm in the "Not play to teach them a lesson" mode, fire off an Email to support, create a Twitter account and my very first "tweet" ever was a WTF to Bryan, and sure as hell, not buy the Jester or the Sabre pack like I had planned this month.

PGI, why? Why would you remove this function? Do you hate people that use joysticks? Is it some kind of vendetta? What could it have possibly been hurting to allow people to fire the selected weapon group??? I really honestly do not understand what you are thinking or why you do what you do!?! Do you enjoy antagonizing those who try to support your game? I mean you had to actively go out of your way to make this change and I can see no logical reason. Although I hate using labels or demeaning anyone, whoever used the term "idiots" earlier in this thread was probably onto something!

Back to WoT for me.

Funny thing is, the people I've talked to on TeamSpeak who never used the bind function are baffled by this decision.

"I never used it, but for the life of me, I can't see logic behind removing it"
"That's Stupid"
"What's a keybind"

I didn't say they were all smart, but they're equally confused.

I'd just like to add my vote to "what the **** were you thinking of" when you removed Fire Selected Weapon Group?

I'm disabled. My keyboard is my biggest enemy. I play with a JS as my primary control device selecting my weapon group with the left/right motion of the POV and firing with my ONLY TRIGGER. I don't have the option of multiple firing buttons/keys. I've only got 500-600 matches played, so I'm no star pilot. But you, PGI, just ruined my gaming experience. I now have the option of only using one group or putting all weapons in a single group and only having the option of every shot being an alpha strike. Yeah... right... <sigh>

In short, PLEASE REINSTATE Fire Selected Weapon Group. Some users don't just want it, they NEED it.
