I'd just like to add my vote to "what the **** were you thinking of" when you removed Fire Selected Weapon Group?

I'm disabled. My keyboard is my biggest enemy. I play with a JS as my primary control device selecting my weapon group with the left/right motion of the POV and firing with my ONLY TRIGGER. I don't have the option of multiple firing buttons/keys. I've only got 500-600 matches played, so I'm no star pilot. But you, PGI, just ruined my gaming experience. I now have the option of only using one group or putting all weapons in a single group and only having the option of every shot being an alpha strike. Yeah... right... <sigh>

In short, PLEASE REINSTATE Fire Selected Weapon Group. Some users don't just want it, they NEED it.

Quoted for importance... but I don't expect much from a company that has back-burnered the requests of the colorblind for almost 2 years.

Just wanted to add one more PUT IT BACK!!!!!
I have 58 mechs and I need that option for my control scheme to work.
I am not going to figure out new ones for all my mechs. This is a deal breaker PGI, dont put it back in and you are losing a user that spends A LOT of MONEY!!! (Have not even broken in my new Phoenix mechs yet... sheesh)

There is NO good reason to remove it... I mean are you just trying to **** people off??

You know we all make mistakes, it is what we do about them that counts....

PGI.... do something about it!!!

Did you really expect PGI to not only formulate but keep a sensible control scheme? How naive.

If its broken, they'll ignore it for 2 years.
If its working, they'll find a way to break it with a patch in 2 weeks.

Pgi i would ask that you please see the outcry that you have caused in the community and at least adress a possible fix so that people can choose their weapons layout this new system is clunky and ineffeciant for me but other may find it usuable. please do consider that you changed a concept that has been the same since closed beta on a wim in a day.

I see in the patch notes that this function has been removed from the game on purpose, but I have not found any rationale for it being removed. From the discussion here, it is clear that the "Fire Selected Weapon Group" key binding was used by many players. Even if that number was a few, the function was enabled, it worked, why remove it?

There have been questions as to "why" one uses this function or their various firing systems. None are wrong, every individual has a preference. By removing options like this favors a few over many.

Personally, I utilize this function a great deal. Weapon groups are set up according to left/right, long/med/short ranges. I can manage heat quickly by shifting groups and use only a single trigger.

Regardless, by removing key bindings at this late date in game development only does to harm those that have helped shape the game experience we all enjoy(ed).

I have played with the "Fire selected weapon group" since closed BETA and I used the mouse wheel to scroll through my groups. Removing this was by far the stupidest thing you could ever do. Return it to the game. I have held my tongue over many other issues in hope you would keep making the game I like to play better. But instead you ruin it with stupid design decisions like this.

RETURN THIS KEY BINDING NOW.

I refuse to play with 6 buttons to fire my weapons.

I use 5 weapon groupings all the time, but I wouldn't advocate disabling someone else's play style.

This is one that needs to be an option again, let people be able to fire their selected weapon group. I don't see the need to have changed this.

P.S. Unbreak the Catapult Missle Tubes while your at it.

P.P.S. Sheesh what an forced/rushed patch this feels like.

The more often I read that they're dumbing the game down to be ported to consoles, then see actions like this, the more believable it becomes.

Guys, this is what PGI was thinking:

SomePGIGuy: "To help the newbies, why don't make the primary mouse button fire group 1?"
AnotherPGIGuy: "Brilliant!"
SomePGIGuy: "While we're at it, why don't we remove the firing selected group button, since it's superfluous?"
AnotherPGIGuy: "Brilliant!"
SomePGIGuy: "Let's stack up more missile pods around the Catapult, because it's cool!"
AnotherPGIGuy: "Brilliant!"

Friends don't let other friends make bad decisions like what occurred in this patch.

If they're dumbing it down to be ported to consoles they're doing it 100% wrong - ditching the fire selected in favor of the one key per weapon means double the keys used, on a console that is seriously idiotic to do when they only have about 8.

Although if they're dumbing MW:O down so they can play it well, that on the other hand I could believe... <_<

Totally true. In fact, MechAssault 1 had the left trigger as "Switch Weapon Group" and right trigger was "Fire Selected Weapon Group." They even had the face buttons (A,B,X and Y) as switch to Group 1,2,3 and 4 respectively. The face button thing was so unnecessary that in MechAssault 2 they got rid of it and stayed with the trigger switching and firing. So basically PGI is making it more difficult for new players (and console players) to understand and play with this change, not to mention screwing people who were already accustomed to using this style. No logical reason to get rid of this function, and I don't even use it. I just know the feeling when having played games with no camera inversion.

Is this actually a game balance topic?

Maybe, because some people's control input options were nerfed...

1) It seems like the OP's original control scheme is terribad. Like, crazy inefficient. But, whatever. Some people play with steering wheels.
2) Ignoring #1, I still don't really see a reason for why the original binding was removed. Given that, presumably, at least one guy used it, it really should have been left in. Perhaps don't make it auto bound to mouse button one, but at least give folks the option to bind it to something if they want.

I own a gaming mouse with a "num pad". For me this setup would be bad. But if I was using a two-button-+scroll wheel mouse, this seems a reasonable setup, quite possibly easier than having to use the number keys or rebinding every key.

This is hardly terribad. Suboptimal maybe, but terribad belongs to the realm of steering wheels...

Um, 12 buttons on the joystick, 6 on the mouse, and a Nostromo, all used in MWO.

If you can come up with an even remotely logical reason for the removal of the Fire Selected Weapon Group keymap, I'd love to hear it.

It is just wrong to play the game that way. Just like it's wrong to try to improvise a Dual weapon chain-fire to deal with ghost heat, but not as wrong as trying to make a game that allows heat neutral mechs.

And if you can't see that, I really can't help you. Maybe this game isn't for you. You're not supposed to have badwrongfun.

I hope Roadbeer gets sarcasm.

I may be missing something, but I've no idea why this option was removed, there wasn't any explaination in the patch notes.

I was setting up my weapons into say 3 groups I needed, cycling with right mouse and firing with left (because that's what I was used to). It's not that I couldn't have set it up a different way but that's just how I was used to doing it.

Now I can see how that's not the optimal way to play, but then I care more about enjoying the game than being optimal and I'm sure it's been outwieghed in effect by my numerous other piloting deficiencies.

I don't own mousezilla and my thumbs not keen on the idea of me going out and buying one.

I guess now I need to completely retrain my muscle memory. Appologies to all the team mates I'm likely to shoot in the back with weapon group 2 while subcouciously trying to change weapon groups over the next few weeks.

And for all those who think that Fire selected group is inefficient, I say it depends on how you are controlling your mech. I come from a flight simulation background, and I control my mech with a joystick, throttle quadrant and rudder pedals for the ultimate immersion factor (do you see a keyboard and mouse in the cockpit of your mech?).

During the heat of battle, I cannot afford to take my hands of the throttle or joystick in order to fire a weapon, because I need that hand on the joystick to track the target with a torso twist, and my other hand on the throttle quadrant to maneuver. There are a precious few buttons on my joystick that are accessible by my thumb and I use them for other important functions like heat vision and zooming.

I have gotten quite good at using the joystick and I feel that the mouse and keyboard, though they may get me more efficient game play and more points, really take a lot of the immersion out of the game.

Long story short, please bring back the "Fire selected weapons group" option

Thank you

The things you guys do seems so asinine sometimes.

... PS4 gets War Thunder.

... XBox One gets MechWarrior Online?

lawl ..

The last few patches have been nothing but cosmetic and I will not be surprised if UI 2.0 = port to console.
