Working as intended.
I'm done, time to uninstall, i urge everyone who disagrees with this to do exactly the same.

Hello Brandon Corwin,
As per the patch notes:
"Removed the key binding option "Fire Selected Weapon Group". Mouse 1's (Left Click) default key bind is now "Fire Weapon Group 1", this can be remapped in the options screen."
This was changed as the previous functionality was causing errors with other key bindings.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Not sure if I believe it though. How can it be causing a problem that no one noticed or complained about for the last year?
Believe it, apparently PGI has decided to confirm their incompetence.

It's a very short list of things PGI has working, therefore it's a short list of things that they have left to PGI-fix into PGI-functionality.

Weird, because in 18 months, over 3000 posts and daily visits to the forums, I hadn't seen...
ONE SINGLE POST ON THIS TOPIC
If it was that big of a problem, then remove it as "Default" not just Remove it because it offends you... you ******* DOLTS!

Well to be fair they could've gotten any number of support tickets asking why the hell they had weapon groups firing oddly. Too bad support just didn't give them a polite L2P reply.
EDIT Also if this is true then PGI is heading down the same gutter into the same sewer that Blizzard slithered into when they bent over backwards to break WoW just to make it more playable for the fools and drifters rather than the core group who actually cared.

At least you got a reply with an actual reason, as ridiculous as it is. Here's the reply I got when I simply emailed Support to ask why it was removed, and to request it be restored:

Your feedback and suggestions are appreciated! However to better reach the developers with your ideas and suggestions, please post here: http://mwomercs.com/...al-discussions/ - please choose the appropriate sub-section. This change was a design decision. We understand that some players may not be happy with the decision, however it remains a decision for the devs to make.
Please be aware that even though the devs do read the forums and especially the suggestions one, they rarely reply to any thread so they can concentrate on actually building the game. Also, the community representatives read all forum posts and compile then send to the devs the most relevant and constructive feedback on a weekly basis.
As one can imagine, if the devs start responding to everything, it would become a never-ending back and forth, and game development itself would suffer because of this.

Do you have to assign different key for different weapons in any FPS? I'm very used to select my weapon (or in this case a group for a special purpose) and use the LMB. Now every one with more then 3 buttons is OP

Your joystick has less buttons than the Naga Hex? I use a regular Naga, BTW and a Orbweaver keypad. I stopped using a Joystick back in the 90s. When I did I used Joystick and gaming mouse even back then not keyboard and joystick. That was too sloppy.
My point is that if people want to play PC games they might have to invest in the tools to play PC games. The mouse with 2 buttons and the simulated frog pond in base of it, or the $3 one that came with the new tower your ordered should probably be for internet browsing... if that.
Paying customers should not have to change to a mouse if they use a joystick PERIOD! It hurts nothing by adding it back in so we can customize the way we want even If you use a mouse, game pad, or joystick.
Its not the same game if you change the way people are used to playing. For me MW is a simulator and I play with a joystick the way simulators are meant to be played.

3) We are adding the ability to bind MB1 to "fire selected weapon group" but it's requiring a bit of trickery on the control binding end of things. We have engineering working on it right now and as soon as that is fixed, the bind will be available to you all again. Sorry for the inconvenience but this was something we did after watching new players have a problem with the current implementation.

Weapons Loadoat: Two large lasers, one medium laser, twin UAC5s.
Group 1=Alpha
Group 2=UAC 5s set on Chain Fire
Group 3=Large Lasers
Group 4=UAC 5s/Large Lasers
Group 5=UAC 5s/Med Laser
Group 6=Large Lasers/Med Laser
Most of my mechs are a mix of weapons so I need to use all of the weapons groups for variations in range and placement on the mech, often considering height and side of mech and of course range. If you are peeking to the right of a building in a laser boat and want to minimize the damage you sustain to your mech, what good is it to have you left-sided weapons fire when you can have more precise control with an easily selectable weapon group? Same goes for armature and height, ability to freely aim with said arms and so forth. Range of course is considered as well as heat management.
Hope that helps.
That's a lot more intricate than I usually do it, but same idea.
I'll usually RMB my most flexible weapon system or the one the build is mainly built around, and then put different configurations of the rest in other fire groups. Reduced numbers of high-heat weapons, weapons with different useful range envelopes, etc. 3, which I can conveniently access from the WASD position, gets tertiary afterthought weapons like a single SRM array or MGs.

Never said there was. I was pointing out a solution to their problem.
...buying an expensive, easily breakable, and unnecesary-for-anything-else-I-play peripheral to keep core functionality in a nominally free-to-play game? **** that.
PGI's becoming like Cryptic, they always show their true derp right after I decide 'ok, things seem to be looking up enough that I can justify paying for something now...'

I'm pretty sure someone could engineer something complicated with AutoHotKey (not sure if this is within its capabilities but something like circumventing the idiotic former UAC-5 unjam system was) or a similar program to track the number of times the L/R arrow keys are pressed and redirect the input from LMB to the selected fire group hotkey, though of course that would screw up using the LMB for anything else until toggled off.
Or they could just not bother playing until the ****up is fixed. Unfortunately I value not ditching my company on something we have planned Monday more than maintaining a proper 'go **** yourself' stance towards PGI, but after that... yeah.

Having worked in development for the past 14 years, from testing to QC and support I thought I had seen it all. PGI you have proven me wrong. At the very least PGI should have the option to roll back code, it is a standard in developing software! IF you do not have that option, YOUR ONLY focus today should be building and testing and installing a HOT FIX to return the fire current selected group option back in to the
The FIRE CURRENT SELECTED mapping option IS NOT an OPTION that can BE REMOVE. Trying to map to group one button or any other option is not the solution. It will only cause additional issues moving forward with MWO. As for new players coming in to the game, they need to learn how it is played. THIS IS NOT SOME SIMPLE MINDED ARCADE GAME!!!!
PGI you have in your hands a gold mine in the gaming world with the potential to take it beyond the current PVP play stile.
PLEASE RETURN THE OPTION ASAP, and give everyone 30 days of premium game time as a show of good faith to all of you customers, at the very least all of your paying customers.
