My A1 has 6x SSRM2. The missile boxes are now almost as big as the whole torso of a Cicada, and it can only fit 2 tubes in it? To shoot a whopping total of 6 missiles there has to be 2 ugly extra boxes strapped on it? Wow. I never liked the C4 much, mostly because it was the ugliest of the Catapults because of the oversized missile boxes. I was ok with that, it can be ugly if it's needed to show that it can fit LRM20s. Now the good looking missile boxes are gone, from the other mechs, and only the ugly one remains. To make things even worse, the A1 and C4 lose the side torso parts that apparently house the side torso energy hardpoints, making the ridiculously humongous missile boxes appear even larger compared to the stripped remains of the torso. Just put back the old, good looking missile boxes. You might also consider firing the people who thought this was a good iteration, to retain some visual quality in the game in the future.

when I first saw the new revised version I thought why is everyone complaining then..after talking with a friend about the changes was points out the large c4 boxes and this lead to much head shaking...

So it leads me to support this quoted post.

said for sometime the 3d modellers were getting stale, this kind of shows how bad they're becomming

This is pgi showing the community they don't even obey their own construction rules now...

the basic level of comon sense says if your going to add pod you use the lrm15 box off the C1, its alittle bit squishy for an lrm20 however if your going to use the lrmbox off the c4 you should be giving one pod gratis before it adds a side pod...
the c4 box has 20 barrels suddenly if you add three streaks to the side pod of an A1 on fits in the box, without shrinking it, the second sits in its own dvd player case, and the thris sits in a dinky lil pod inside the box...

Now what does it look like if you add a lrm10 and two lrm 5...hmm does it look like an lrm20 box..nope..so umm....three lrm launches are now the sizr of 3 srm2 in the same pod..and is the size of the atlas side torso and arm and yet the atlas can fit two lrm15 in its side torso for minimum size changes..

This is a classic mech and you have really really buggered it up, if this is the best we can expect now..leave them alone..I like my lrm10 in a cent that is half the size of an lrm10 in a catapult..

I consider this change similar to burning a painting. Just give me the old cat back. I couldn't care less about your new 'artistic vision,' budget cuts, new interns, or whatever led to this terrible decision.

Telling an artist what shade of blue to use I agree it would be a bit rich, but this isn't art. What we have here is some vandal using an aerosole and spraying shane does mandy across the front of your house, which carries a fine and community service..of which some would be removing the offensive graffetti, from public view

Unequal treatment PGI, I demand this absurdity on all other mechs, especially my hunchback 4J and 4SP.

The hunchback hasn't had its rebuild yet...be carefull what you ask for..sadly I see the art pass untterly ruining the hunchback and cent like they have the catapult..can't help but wonder if the picked up some of mechwarrior tactic's medicocre model team

I dont use LRMs on my Mechs and dont have the Catapul but this is a bad joke...totally agree with you guys..

I love this.

The Catapult's huge, VCR-carrying ears are as large as a commando. Meanwhile, a mech 20-tons heavier - and with equal missile capability - is smaller in overall size. Brilliant!

Of course, the long-term solution will be to add thing-a-ma-bobs to all the mechs, so each of them is sprouting absurdly huge launchers everywhere. Meanwhile, the AC20 on the Blackjack champion that's running around is about as big as an AC5 on most mechs. No sense of scale at all, and I shudder to think what other LRM boats will look like once "improved" - how large will the Awesome be? How about the Stalker? I'm imagining giant shoulder pods jutting up everywhere...

I just don't understand why this was hard to do. The Catapults had a box for missiles, so the missiles go IN the box. If the number of missiles thrown is greater than the box limit (15 or 20) then - and only then - do you have to worry about adding things, and even then, they really should have added NOTHING and just had the missiles fire in volleys. Instead, we have 3 SRM2's per ear taking up a huge amount of space because suddenly the missile ears can only fire 2 at a time vs. 15 if you have LRM15's in there. ARGH!?

I want again 3 x LRM5 on each side, nicely hide inside of box which is for it BTW !!!!

Just wait for the next update, guys, you will be able to get your nice, clean A1 ears back...for a small investment of a couple hundred MCs.

Rumor has it the additional pods were going to have up to 15 tubes each, but that got reduced due to the excessive size.

Now it is too bad that the third launcher bays couldn't be like the second and just attach top and bottom.

Ultimately though, the doors don't open as much. With the doors open, the vertical size of the hitbox (from the front) is actually about the same (just lower instead of higher).

The ROFLpult pre-upgrades. Post-upgrades are coming soon.
Spoiler

Compared to now, the doors of then opened and went straight up. The difference between then and now is that now we're more vulnerable from the side (as in the arms take up more damage, while protecting our side torsos) for the A1.

:D It is just so outside of the spirit of the catapult. That odd cagework of mounting system should have always been inside the weapons bay only to be exposed on the ready or in fire.

I have been doing some CGi of the Catapult posting them in the Fan Art area.

If interested check them out.

Anyone seen a response from PGI regarding this....

....whether or not they are going to rollback the models?

....whether they will use the modular system INSIDE the box/ear ??

PGI take note, this is how u scale things -.-

Note the grass textures, the fine textures, the small physical tapography in the cliffs, the small bushes, the tree's and the leaves.

I actually think the "new" ears look badass. They certainly haven't seemed to hamper the Catapult's viability. I've seen more A1s, C1s, and C4s lately than I have in a long time.

+1 Troll

No, really. Making their ears (far) easier to shoot off increases their viability?

WHAT.

ok, and sinse its in this thread im going to explain why the doors need to come off aswell. This is a game, comparing it to real life is not wise, however...

The catapult is a military vehicle. It needs to be able to operate in extreme conditions and under fire. Now look at those doors, imagine a stray shot goes right into the hinge and destroys the mechanism, but does no other damage to the mech. That door now will not open because PGI designed them to flap upwards instead of down. This cuts up to half the firepower off that mech. Had they dropped down, the door would still open under the force of gravity. This design would never get past the testing phase. After several waves of testing i expect the doors would either be removed completely or come with an ejection mecanism that would alow the lanchers to function even if the door becomes damaged or jammed. No military vehicle would ever have a system like those doors on it because of the reasons i have outlined. IMO

They look stupid pointing upwards.
