I actually think the "new" ears look badass. They certainly haven't seemed to hamper the Catapult's viability. I've seen more A1s, C1s, and C4s lately than I have in a long time.

ok, and sinse its in this thread im going to explain why the doors need to come off aswell. This is a game, comparing it to real life is not wise, however...

The catapult is a military vehicle. It needs to be able to operate in extreme conditions and under fire. Now look at those doors, imagine a stray shot goes right into the hinge and destroys the mechanism, but does no other damage to the mech. That door now will not open because PGI designed them to flap upwards instead of down. This cuts up to half the firepower off that mech. Had they dropped down, the door would still open under the force of gravity. This design would never get past the testing phase. After several waves of testing i expect the doors would either be removed completely or come with an ejection mecanism that would alow the lanchers to function even if the door becomes damaged or jammed. No military vehicle would ever have a system like those doors on it because of the reasons i have outlined. IMO

They look stupid pointing upwards.

On the plus side they open less vertically now, Tiny victory right?

I have been watching this thread but haven't chimed in till now (such reserve from a Catapult pilot, I know, right?)

Those addidtional missile racks are absolutely terrible. I do not understand why they would bother to model additional racks when they could just model differing patterns of missile tubes. Heck, if they thought the original missile boxes need to be bigger for some loadouts, why not have them change to the Cat C4 missile boxes???

Not only does it look terrible (the lower racks remind me of a DVD player shelf on the bottom of a CRT TV wall mount), but the arms are HUGE.

I suppose this is punishment for people using the Streak or Splat cats...I don't know. This is just one of many PGI decisions that make me scratch my head.

Who cares if I lose all my primary weapons because of my enormously large ears when I can watch a movie.

....feels like if we don't keep up with the awareness of this issue the catapult is just going to become obsolete.

I think we are already there. I like the Catapult a lot (and still use my C1 and K2 frequently), but the Cat has been eclipsed by newer heavies. Still, I like using them anyway and luckily I am still pretty good with them.

LRM balancing is happening (i think) ECM cannot go on the way it is forever. Giving PGI the benefit of the doubt would suggest that these seemingly nonsensical changes will all come into focus in some future patch....

and that wretched tactic of "LRM nests" eg 2 overloaded 32kph cats and a jager squatting beihnd a hill somewhere will become the accepted use of the A1 if not all of them

I really hope they adress the Ear issue as well as the K2-PPC-Arms...the cat k2 now looks horrible when mounting ppcs in the arms
it would be awesome to have the "old" cat k2 ppcs back for the arms, and to keep the twiglet-ppcs for the torso mounted ppcs

I think they should standardize all the weapon sizes. Why is the AC/20 full size on a jaeger and ac/5 size on blackjack. It almost defeats the purpose of having the weapons dynamically change with loadout if the weapon doesn't look like the weapon.

On this issue at least, the forum community seem to be in general agreement - we don't like the changes and want the Cat reverted or repaired in some fashion.
Because we're not arguing much about it, the thread tends to fall off the front page.

Perhaps we should manufacture some kind of conflict:

Catapult Geometry Changes, terrible or bad?

Choose sides and employ all the usual argument tactics to prove the other side is wrong and foolish.

The catapult geometry changes are terrible, especially for the A1.

*sigh*

Waiting to find out what PGI is planning to do to fix the Catapult, and hopefully not in the veterinarian sense.

I vote terrible! All of you saying claiming the changes are bad are noobs with no clue!

Well, the changes are obviously merely bad; terrible changes would include some measure of additional Ghost Heat.
