So I got a taste of the MWO fanart during the Halloween contest and decided to try getting it out of my system with the Marauder Redesign Contest

I tried to take as much of the previous feedback into consideration as I could, while still staying true to my personal vision of what I want to see on the battlefield. I know the cockpit will be a point of contention for some people, but I've grown pretty attached to the unintentional screaming face. I mean c'mon, it's like a constant battle-cry :o

Not my favorite depiction so far, but still impressive work. I think I want the body to be a bit taller perhaps?

I know, it's the technique that counts.
Nope, you just wish it does.
Does, too!
Even if it did, it wouldn't help you anyway.
Meanie.
Stop takling to yourself, creep.
You first.

Yes! All kinds of yes! Well done sir. Hands down best MAD redesign I've seen. You captured the essence of the original with that MWO flair. You got talent.

excellent work, and far better art skills than my own. I would say that there are two areas that bug me a little, one is that the legs and body don't quite feel in proportion with each other, perhaps the legs are a little too big? (Something makes the whole package look a little too erect for my tastes) and I think the AC is a little too small. Torso about 10% bigger, brought forward and down on the waist, with the arms pushed a tad farther back, and the AC pushed pack, generally increased about 5% and the barrel lengthened 10-15% and I'd be throwing my money at it, because the detail and design of so many of the individual details is fabulous.

Absolutely LOVE the take on the torso and cockpit and arms, specifically as you added more heft to the gun pods than say, Shimmering Swords famous rendition.

I love the legs. Love the mech. I think what bugs me is the torso looks... too short? Not long enough I think. Otherwise, I absolutely love, love, love this redesign.

Edit:

By that, I mean maybe 20% longer torso in the front. Perhaps with slightly beefed up upper arms to maintain the visual balance?

I agree with Bishop, the torso and the cannon should be bigger.

You know what is even more refreshing?

People NOT throwing a temper tantrum over the significant change of design from chickenwalker to digitigrade on a Marauder!

Agreed. And besides, when the art is as good as it s above, it's hard to be too critical. I just like to marvel at the awesomness of it. Anyhow, i find my talents to be lesser than that of Marcobra, i don't think I create art that looks as good as his.

Hey, thanks for the feedback guys!

I think some general proportion tweaks would be fine at this point. I actually did have the AC around 10% larger, but it looked too clunky (and yeah, probably a bit too far forward), but maybe a bit more height on the torso could help that. I might add a touch more bulk to the lower front to help sink it onto the hips (so it doesn't feel as erect), but I would hesitate to pull it forward any more. With the cockpit so far forward as it is, torso twisting would probably feel pretty disorienting already. I could see pushing the arms a bit further back to help front weight it a bit, but I can imagine that the further the shoulder alignment is from the hips the less balanced the mech would handle.

I'll see what I can come up with when I get the chance.

Hey man! HUGE fan of your work. I own a few Eclipse Phase books and I've saved some of your work that I've found from 4chan. Fanboyism aside...

I'm very fond of this model. I'll start with the legs and that unique double-kneed position. It looks a lot more agile with that assembly at the top of the leg. I'm also liking the curves of the torso. The Marauder had a lot of ECM variants that I always envisioned as a stealth mech. The arms are just as sleek.

Now for the criticism. I don't think the feet are quite right. They look more like flaps than actual combat feet. Armor up those joints, Marauder's go fast! Then there's the already stated proportion things. The feet are all that bug me, really.

Thanks for this awesome redesign and I hope you show us something to be proud of.

Hey thanks Shagohad, that's a huge compliment! I always love working on Eclipse Phase stuff. It's such a weird, cool universe.

Thanks for the feedback on the feet. Admittedly, they were one of the first parts I designed and as a result they didn't get as much love on the final pass, so... yeah I'll probably take another look at them when I get the chance.

Marcobra has the legs set up digitigrade instead of reverse canted plantigrade. The femur adds the extra height. And um... makes it look like a really big Bloodhound.

Marcobra, with the color palette you chose for the background and the cockpit, calling your MAD "The Scream" would have been very apropos.

Amazing Marauder!

I'm not totally sure about the Mongoose legs, tough.

legs are part of it, but the torso connecter adds a good 1-2 meters too.

So here's that update with the proportion adjustments. No major design changes here, but with all the little tweaks I think it feels a lot better.

Again, thanks for all the constructive feedback.

I like the artwork. Although for my personal taste the lower arms and AC weapon pod should be more massive, i'd try a 20-30% increase in scale.

Think you nailed it this time. Torso seems more proportional to the legs, making it appear as if it was not as tall. Retains the classic design feel while being a total rework.
