Mechs should never have been allowed to exceed their TT engine limits. That would have solved a lot of problems. But, we've been allowed to ignore the original concept of the mech and just do whatever we want. This has lead to the only differentiation between mechs is the number/types of hard points and whether it has JJs or not. The Shadowhawk, Griffin, and Wolverine are essentially all the same mechs except for some slight differences with weapon payloads - nothing major enough to winge about - and how they look. Yay for us!
Being a LONG time TT Player, I Like the MW Flexibility of Engines. Battlemaster has 340 engine. Having that one extra sink in a 350 engine is a big advantage and worth a few extra tons. Also the only limit a Mech had was how many Movement points you could get v How many tons of other stuff you wanted. A MWO Locust Max engine is a 190 even though the fasted Locust on TT can have a 240 engine (XL of course) for 194KpH without MWO speed boosts.

The only thing that really bugs me personally is how mediums get shafted for top speed benefit with better engines.
