Assaults are the strongest mechs in the game. Is it surprising that more people want to play them? I have been some nights when I am not run in my light playing 6+ games with no lights and no more then 2 mediums on my team in a row. Think how badly it is going to be if tonnage limit matchmaking comes into solo queue. The assault queue going to be very very long compared to the rest. I mean high Elo games already take years to find and are almost all assault mechs.... Inc 4 hour wait times!!!

There are a lot more folk (myself included) who could not pilot an assault out of a wet paper bag... and are far more productive in heavies and lights...
Mediums are still our red head step-mechs however...

i clicked on the link thinking, "Oh my, THIS should be good!" and you my friend did not fail to deliver. Good call for yet another "assault (insert exagerrated adjective here) and needs to the fixed" thread
You sir, have provided us with an entertaining thread for the weekend!

No, I don't think it's surprising. It's disappointing. I think the problem is that everyone wants to take an assault and then figure out what kind of role they want to play (you know, the guy who wants to stealth around and surprise the enemy from behind in his Atlas? Spectate him as he wanders alone through the frozen city tunnel while his teammates get slaughtered.) No big deal; we were all new once and everyone has to figure things out. But what happens is rather than say, "Oh, I want to run a fast flanker, so I'm going to start learning how to build/run meds and fast heavies." They say, "Well, everyone says assault is best, and that's what I've been in so far, so never mind. I'll just stick with my Atlas."
And a whole new generation of "Lights shouldn't be able to kill me/ this map is too big/ this map is too hot/ quit capping/ can we get rid of any nerf that stops me from running my 12 PPC-Alpha dream-build?" threads are spawned.

Don't worry, the solution to the problem is already in place. Every medium that gets released is now the same height as, or taller than, assault mechs in order that players can get the same feel from this less popular weight class.

Actually you see a lot of to many Assault AND to many Light threads but never to many heavy or mediums... Wonder why that is?

Not quite true. It is not the fault of the 50-60 KpH Mech that the 70-150 KpH Mechs leave them in the dust.

Usually see less Assaults as faster movement is needed for the capping.

That's because most of the playerbase doesn't want mediums to have a role beyond reducing their team's tonnage, and people love their heavies too much (some statistics I've seen suggest that heavies are even more common than assaults).
