Greetings Mechwarriors,
I've been trying out the dual gauss build in my jaggermech, so basically that means the only ammo I have in my mech is gauss ammo right (I checked my loadout)? But when I died in a match a while ago it said "Killed by AMMO EXPLOSION".

There's a bug. It's your rifle that exploded but game repots it as ammo exposion. Been around since stoneage.

i found CASE delays the explosion but will not prevent eventual destruction. The Gauss explodes in the arms and destroys a whole mech too? i thought that was weird.

If you are piloting a gauss mech with an xl engine, and the gauss rifle in your arm,you are piloting a ticking timebomb.
And the gauss in your side torso with an xl is much much worse.
When i had my gauss jäger (with the stock std engine mind you) almost EVERY match ended with me without my other arm and side torso.

It's not a real bug, the gauss explosion is considered an ammo explosion.
C.A.S.E. doesn't prevent the explosion itself, it simply prevent the damage from spreading to nearby locations.
If you pilot a Jager with dual gauss and put a C.A.S.E. in every arm if the guns explode you lose only the arm, otherwise you'll almost centantly lose the side as well.
If you have a Gauss in the side torso and a XL engine than C.A.S.E. is useless because you will lose the side torso anyway and still die.
When you put a gauss on a mech alway keep in mind that you are going around with an armed bomb in that location, Gauss have the least hp of any weapons, take a lot of slots (easier to be critted) and have a 95% chance of exploding if destroyed

Not quite right, CASE in MWO doesn't prevent the explosion to spread, it just reduces that explosion to one tone or ammo afaik. So if you have 4 tons exploding, only one will transfer. Of course in the case of the gauss that's... well wasted tonnage.
On the other hand, a gauss rifle explodes for "only" 20 damage so if you die to that explosion, you would have died in the next 10 seconds anyway.

First, Gauss ammo does not explode, but the Gauss rifle does (for 20 points of damage).
When ammo (or a Gauss rifle) explodes, it can cause large amounts of damage. If the explosion destroys the internal structure of a location, any remaining damage is transferred inward, to the internal structure of the next location. Arms and legs transfer to the appropriate side torso, side torsos transfer to the center torso. CASE prevents the explosion from transferring past the location in which it is installed.
For example, if you have CASE installed in your left torso, any explosion that starts in, or transfers into, your left torso will never transfer any damage into your center torso.
Some of you may notice that this doesn’t do anything for Mechs with XL engines, and yet many of the canon default loadouts include XL engines and CASE in the side torsos. We are currently considering some additional tweaks that would ensure that this is not a completely useless combination.

edit: about the "it's only 20 damage so you would die anyway", Ammo explosion is applied directly to internal structure so it ignores armor, you can have an atlas with 120 armor untouched in the CT and it would still die from an ammo explosion in the ST

Inner Sphere CASE cannot go in the arms, only the side torsos.
Also, someone recently posted a response they got from someone in the company that contradicted the established information on how CASE works in MWO. Last I heard, there was no official clarification stating if that response was accurate or not.

That was the thread i referred to (and I think the one you mean, too)
http://mwomercs.com/...transfer-to-ct/
There's a response from support that CASE don't work like we all expected but with this weird mechanic I tried to describe.
Oh and 20 Damage in the side transfer for 50% so 10 internal damage (when the full explosion transfers). If that Atlas has full armor, chances are it has full internals. So there's no way he'd die from 10 or even 20 internal damage to the CT.
