One thing of note that no one seems to bring up - this is a game with rock scissors paper. Even if rock were the overall best - if it became the meta and everyone started using rock, it might be worth it to bring paper. :)

That would be true if we had acceptable balance. We don't have it yet. At the moment the method to the beat rock is bringing a bigger rock.

This is funny because its coming from a pilot that only ever uses assult / heavy mechs.
Although Manus is very good in non meta builds, each of his loadouts are quite uniqe!
It was always alot of fun to play with him.

Not sure I follow
That's a personal preference, doesn't have anything to do with the meta.

@ ManusDei

You are welcome to come back to HHGD. Not sure why you left, we don't require anyone to run specific builds or be "elite". Colonel Aahz even confirmed it, you can come back.

Well I'm happy you GAVE HIM PERMISSION to come back, that's very big of you. Why don't you find out who it was that caused him to leave and deal with that. Claiming that you don't know why he left in the first place is a clear indication that the problem hasn't been solved or even addressed and should he return he would be right back where he was when he left. One of the hardest things to beat out of any organization is the secretive "Old Boys Network" who even when they are cut out can still influence what those who were their friends who remain do. Once the stain is present it requires something close to an act of God to get it out. Sort things out then let everyone know what the situation was and what you did to fix it and let them decide if they want to come back but don't be surprised if they don't even bother to give you a response.

Edited to change the blocked word Tain.t to stain

That's purely a matter of opinion based on personal skill.

For me, I love discussions about builds. Suggestions are always welcome, but IMHO if you're going to make a build suggestion to someone, be prepared to back it up with a rationale and actually listen to the pilots response. All too often (and I'm not directing this at you, Joe) these "suggestions" are made by people who don't really understand what the pilot is doing and why, or what his personal capabilities are. For example, suggestions to take SSRM's to deal with lights, when the pilot has no trouble hitting lights with his ballistics.

So, build discussions? Awesome. Assumption that the pilot is an *****? Not so cool. It's best to start such a discussion with the assumption that there is a good reason why the build is the way it is.
:)
If its one thing I don't do it's tell someone how to build their Mech. I may as other Lawmen, suggest a tweak that I think would make it better, but I don't tell folks how to play their Mech, and I don't get offended if they decline.

I remember the last time someone told me how to pilot my mech.

I said, "Once you send me the money for my founders package, paid me the equivalent of my hourly wage for the time I've spent in the cockpit, and reimbursed me for my premium time and hero mechs, THEN you could tell me how to play. Until that time, you should enjoy the view from the back seat as I'm still alive and you aren't":

I have no ill feelings toward HHOD they are good group. I'm glad to hear they don't follow the meta stuff. I sincerely appreciate the invite and will have to consider it among the list of offers already received. thank you

Last I checked the only mechs "worth bringing" were assault mechs or heavies (Exception: Shadowhawk or OMGBROKENSPIDER!!!!!1!1!111!)

Edit: so in a sense that is a Meta choice.

I effectively run my Sarah and Raven and Cicadas quite a bit. So I guess that feeds the argument, if you're good, you don't need meta-builds

And I am looking forward to when I have finished my current batch of mechs and can turn my attention to the Hunchies. :(
Wondering how well the AC10 variant does compared to the AC20 (Stock or Near-Stock)

I find "non-meta" balanced builds the most fufilling to play and I still do decent in em. Would I change to a FOTM build if my 12 man told me to? Probably not, probably the reason I don't play in competitive 12 mans. MWO is a game for me to chill and play while relaxing, not some kind of second job.

That said, my current favorite (Thud S(p) w/ LRM 15, 3 mlas, ERLLAs, 2 MG and SSRM2.. so basically a 7M) isn't the most efficient build in the world for MWO (great in TT though), I still manage a few kills and usually top 3-4 in damage per match. Good enough for me.

It's OK, but never been great for me. I like high alpha in my Hunch, so I can hit and spin my hunch outta the line of fire again.

Having played with AC10s on my Cent, and the 20 on my Yenlo... I think I see where you are coming from on that.

(Now why didn't that comparison occur to me when I made the earlier post? :()
