So, I'm having a little bit of an idenetiy crisis atm. Me and some friends are starting to collect BT mini's from Ironwind metals, and I'm totally going for a clan wolf-in-exile army, to me they just seem to be the most bad-a, but my issue is I dont really like the mechs they made or would be available to them in the lore, while i pretty much love the mechs that clan wolf has to offer. Call me crazy but i kind of drool over the Tundra Wolf. (hell one of my t-bolts loadout is modeled after the tundra wolf)

Now I havent begun to look through all the rules, plus we still need to order some of the TRO/source books, but would it be concievable to me to use clan wolf mechs in a wolf-in-exile force, or should I bite the bullet and just play clan wolf instead?

Timeline wise we're shooting for the end of the jihad era, so about the last year of the jihad to about a decade after. its a little off topic, but my friends are going: 1-jade falcon (one more reason i want to do wolf-in-exile), 2-house davion, and 3-house kurita (Quote "Im half black - asain and i demand to be samurai")

well since at that period of time they are right next to each other. so if you were to use a mixed force of the two unit types, plus lyran commonwealth units since the exiles are closely allied, you would probably not be that far off.

Clan wolf in exile do business with clan diamond shark so I think you can excuse it away as a deal between the merchant castes of these two clans.

Failing that it could of been taken as salvage there are ways to include any mech you like in your force, just takes a little imagination.

alright, cool thanks guys. we're going to start out with a lance/star each respectively. So far i have a Nova Cat (won in a trial) and a Tundra Wolf, then probably going to get a pair of mediums and an assault, then build the rest of the force around that as we expand into tanks and fighters and such.

For mediums i was thinking of an arctic wolf and a pack hunter II and maybe a hellstar for the assault, but im still on the fence, any advice on what i should pick up starting a new force?

well this is still pre-republic, so multiple mechs in a unit is reasonable. if you do ever head to the black out, 2 stars of mechs in a cluster would be about right.

Heh. Your friend has chosen wisely. :D Heck, point him towards the Wolves on the Border novel. The protagonist is a black samurai mechwarrior of the Draconis Combine. :P

I use a homebrew merc regiment in most of my campaigns. Though only in one case have i ever had much more than a company of it in play. 1 reinforced battalion of mechs. 2 battalions of vehicles. 1 squadron and two flights of aerospace fighters. 1 battalion of infantry. they have 1 overlord, 1 excalibur and two leopards for dropships. mech batt consists of 4 assault mechs, 9 heavies. 12 mediums and 22 light mechs (47 total). one battalion of vehicles is the units main battle line with a large number of MBTs and other heavier tanks. the other batt consists of a support company complete with 3 sniper artillery vehicles and support troops. one company of light scout and skirmish tanks. and one that consists of a infantry plus attendant apcs. aerospace forces consist of 2 flights of chippewas. 1 flight of sparrowhawks. 1 flight of corsairs. and one flight of shilones.

They are currently based on shiloh employed by the league. and in the campaign i am currently in it is fed-com civil war era.

of that force currently one reinforced company is off world as part of an unofficial show of support of katrina by the free world's league.

this entire explanation was unnecessary, but i still felt like doing it.

Heh. For tabletop I've been using the Draconis Combine's 3rd Proserpina Hussars as my unit since the early to mid 90's. One day I'll even get around to painting the rest of those miniatures in the regimental colors as well. Ah, the curse of the miniature collector: getting all your minis painted without getting sick of painting the same colorscheme before you're done. :)

ya, my friend has already stated his forces will be lead by a Hatamoto-Chi, and our house davion friend has now stated his force will be northwind highlanders, and is going to use a highlander. Thank you guys for the advice earlier. And I'll refer that book to him.

My planned star atm: Pack Hunter II, Ursus II, Nova Cat, Tundra Wolf, and Hellstar. I know its kind of a mix but I wanted to try out a few different weights, find out what I like, then plan my next set of purchases.
