I have seen a squirrel once!

But I have to keep my mouth shut or they will find me and drag me to someplace dark.

Wait... it just rang on the door, I'll be right back...

Monkey is PC gamer. No longer available.
The dawn fairy is an nvidia promo. No longer available.
The squirrel is for the super-secret (not really) testers. Not available to the public.
There are various devkill banners, PGI medals, community contributor flags, and etc. Obvious enough how to get them. They handed out even more special 'piranha hunt' banner items during a handful of promos 2012.
I think the people who attended either convention event got a little something.
The 24 medallion was a special award if you took part in the first release week after the game went gold.
The urbanmech with an LED cigar was a 1000 MC purchase during christmas last year, and only available until new years.
You can find some rare snake statues for chinese new years.

There's a bunch more, but those are the ones people commonly ask about.

Yep. I only had the dashboard statue folder open. Most of what Vass here mentions and what you mentioned Nehk, are hanging items and thus aren't listed in what I showed.

Yes, and there is a special santa atlas, as well as a santa elf commando.

Interesting note: like barrel sizes in MWO, depending on which mech you mount the same statue into, it will change sizes.

Example: A Spider statue in a Raven is tiny. A Spider statue in an Awesome is pretty doggone huge. There's a scale modifier to make sure the statues fit in the designated area. The Awesome's scale of the Spider Statue is too big to fit the statue in a Raven's space for it and thus it gets reduced in size.

As of the last time I tested this (August), the Awesome has the biggest mounted statue scale. Meaning if you really want to check out the Hula Girl or Dawn or your favorite UrbanMech (ClassyMech) slap it into an Awesome.

Good on ya mate. Thought I'd missed it. Can't wait for the next freebie now that this one is expiring.

Cause they look cool?
There is only so much that effects actual gameplay they can give us and avoid the P2W horror - cosmetics like paint and bobbleheads are a safe place to charge money.

Most of mine were challenge/promotional material. I have bought a snowman because it went on sale for a little over a buck and wanted another standing item to pair with my collection of hanging items. It's personal preference to what you want to blow $ on.

"Personal space and decoration." There's a sentimental value in being able to decorate a mech and cockpit to be your own. Personally I'd throw double the standard price for a refillable drink thermos and cup, where the pilot can visually reach out and drink from the cup (and after so many times, refill it). It'd be perfect as a "Welp you don't have a chance in heck of beating me so I'm gonna let go of the guns and take a swig here to give you a chance. Ahhh... Okay, time to kill you now."

Another good example. Star Citizen's trailer for the Aurora customization. Leather seats would do absolutely nothing in a game. You can't feel it. Does it really matter? But what if I just want to see leather seats instead of rough-looking industrial steel chairs with no cushions?

I have the Elf Commando and the nVidia Fairy. I get asked about them a lot. I'm willing to bet next month all the old Christmas stuff will go back on sale as well.

Guarantee it. Most of the pumpkins were available last year. There was at least one new pumpkin. We can probably expect to see at least one new Christmas item.

My only regret about starting "late" is not having the Nvidia fairy. I like my Razer dice, but they're not quite as cool as she is.

I remember the days of click exploring the secret hideouts of Coconut Monkey on PC Gamer cds.. I can even still hear him in my head when he pops on screen(I should get that checked out).
