You could do 100 damage and core an Atlas or do the same spread over the arms and legs of the whole enemy team for no effect.

This would be why I look at XP earned. You get XP for spotting, killing, damage, component destruction, savior kills, defensive kills, kill assists, and more. Maybe I didn't get a lot of damage but instead of hammering it out with an Atlas toe to toe I ran back to our base and killed the guy capping it. Well, I got bonus XP for a Defensive kill. XP seems to be the best measurement of how much you contributed. Saviour Kills and Kill Assists mean you were with your team and shooting the right targets.

With an average game time of 8 minutes, that would be 2.0464*10^28 minutes.

FYI - that's a lot of minutes.

Gotta love scientific notation. That's a few kilomoles of minutes!

Well - I did have to break a few laws of quantum physics.

Fie!

Thermodynamics has laws, quantum mechanics has postulates. Which are more like polite suggestions, really.

Theoretical physics theories? a bit redundant.

My fav mech: JAG 3 AC2 + 3 MG

I can shoot at any range...

On my stats, my average Dmg per match is 500 and kills ration slight above 2.5. Sometime i break the 1000 dmg (often on canyon or alpine peak where i can daka targets that can't reach cover in time).

I am not a good players, its the weapon system that allow so high damages. But i am not fooled with that stats:

Because of high ROF, low heat and high range, i do high damage BUT this is not pin point damage.

Because of high ROF and low heat, i often ninja cored mechs that teamates fired on it.

---------------------------------------------------------------

In the other hand, My AC40 Jag or 2AC20 / 2 Largepulse Misery (same concept) do far less damage and far less kill because of range and ROF BUT the pinpoint 40 dmg hurts a lot.

I don't think damage is the only consideration. How focused the damage is ... that is more important ... but there is no way to measure it. A mech that does 200 to 300 damage can contribute a lot IF that damage is focused on a vulnerable component of a limited number of mechs. The goal is to contribute to kills for your team.

Contributing kills doesn't always mean killing though.

For example:

You can not shoot a mech if you can't find it. So those heavier slower mechs that can be out maneuvered by lighter mechs really do need scouts on some of the larger maps. Having a couple fast mechs split off and get eyes on the enemy which allows you to better select the ground you fight over or avoid being flanked and killed by unexpected fire contributes to killing the enemy.

I've also had matches where my mech has done about 50 damage total but I've acted as spotter for two friends and helped them rain LRMs on opposing mechs because I was able to find a flanking position and keep them locked up. Firing would have given my position away. Did I do damage? No. Did I get XP? Yes I got a ton of XP on some matches from launching a UAV and then circling around and getting spotting XP. They need to continue to expand XP for things other than shooting weapons but even so it is still a good measure of effectiveness.
