Community Warfare will happen on a map of the IS. But it will be tricky to balance Clans-vs-IS while the IS is fighting each other and while the Clans are thrown in there untested. The Clans would have to be balanced retroactively while they are part of Community-Warfare.

My solution:
Before the Clans are introduced by invading the IS, they are introduced by a separate community-warfare: invading the five Pentagon-worlds.

1. Join a Clan and the queue will throw you in a fight with a random other Clan.
2. Join a Clan and the queue will throw you into random fights against volunteers with IS-Mechs (= soldiers of the warlords of the Pentagon-worlds).

Clan-vs-Clan and Clan-vs-IS could be tested and balanced in small random matches that don't affect the wars in the Inner Sphere.

THEN, when everything is balanced, the Clans could hold a community-warfare-trial to see which Clans get to invade the IS. (The event could last a year, with the high-score-list being openly visible and updated regularly.)
The four winning Clans are granted an invasion-corridor and a head-start. The rest of the Clans would have to conquer a world in one of the invasion-corridors before being able to advance further.

with the 1 to 1 timeline that will never make sense. Operation Klondike happened almost 200 years ago.

Other than that, it IS an interesting idea. Mind you, they would be using star-league era tech, not clan mechs, as those don't appear for quite some time.

You cant give away invasion corridors so freely though. That would be like giving the st. ives compact full control of the capellan confederation because they have better pilots (and im not saying they do, thats just an example).

Think of the invasion corridors as more successor states than dynamic occupation zones that will quickly be dismantled post invasion. As this map shows, in 3145, nearly 100 years later, though the borders have changed, the major players, the wolves, jade falcons and ghost bears (in the form of the rasalhague dominion) are still there. The only occupation zone to ever be completely destroyed is the Smoke Jaguar occupation zone.

Don't forget about the Snow Ravens as the Raven Alliance and Clan Hell's Horses. Both of which play minor roles which bring about major changes to the timeline.

Are you saying just have a Clan Only campaign? Stating with the formation of the Clans? That would be a fun campaign.

That WOULD be pretty cool. Too date the only pure clan campaigns we've had are the Wolf and Jade Falcon campaigns in MechWarrior 2 31st Century Combat.

It's worth noting once again however, that at the time of Operation Klondike, the clans were using star league era tech, clan tech such as omnimechs would not appear for some time.

A question that's admittedly a bit off topic but relates to Klondike. Anyone know what mech is featured on the cover of the original Klondike operation's manual? I've been looking for some time now.

Even with IS tech, a clan campaign could be fun just for the story/history.

Or just set it up in the far Periphery and test it out there. As far as I know, Periphery states aren't included in Community Warfare, so it would have no impact on the larger game. Fix the bugs out there, then have them invade when there's balance.

Really, the POINT of the Clans is that they're unbalanced - their tech wasn't decimated by centuries of warfare.

So what if we do a "Peryphery invasion" very long public test? It would be expensive for them to run more servers for the PT (i assume this is the reason why they keep them open only for a little time) but would be worthy.

Yeah, that idea came to me after I had posted. I forgot that Operation Klondike was too early.

That's what I will post in Feature Suggestions one day:
1. Make option available to join a Clan.
2. Random matches Clan-vs-Clan, 10:10.
3. Once Clan-vs-Clan is balanced:
3a. Clans-vs-IS for balancing purposes
3b. A huge Clan-vs-Clan-tournament to see which clan gets a headstart in the upcoming invasion of the IS.
4. Clans are introduced to the IS-community-warfare.

And maybe use Zellbriggen only for Clan-vs-Clan.
