It's the 5D. It says 1 ECM, but I don't know how to use it in game. The controls say J switches it to counter and some such, but I can't tell if it's working.

Also, I never see the symbol for it either when I'm in game.

How doe you use the ting?

Thanks.

The 5D has the hardware slot for ECM, but it doesn't come with it. You have to buy it separately.

Did you buy the ECM module and equip it in your mech?

No, I guess not.

Ok, that solves that!

Thanks.

NP, when you get it bought and installed, it comes default in "disrupt" mode which hides you from enemy sensors. You can change it to "counter" mode so that it will counter (or jam) 1 enemy ECM at close range. I believe the default toggle key is "J"?

I've remapped most of my keys, and I've always left mine in default disrupt mode.

If you look at the bottom of your weapons display in game, it will show you which mode your ECM is currently in.

Special note!

If you're disrupting near an enemy, they will know you are there because of a low signal. You'll be able to shut down enemy lockons with this provided they don't have bap or counter your ECM.

If you're on counter, you will be able to sneak up on enemies without them knowing (at close range) because you're not giving any jamming to their sensors. Obviously don't do this from in front but from behind.

That's getting rather close to "pay to win", isn't it?

Eh, depends on how they outfit it. Give it jumpjets, 4 energy and no missile hardpoints. Different but not OP.

Also, please remember to switch to counter, if your team could support you with long range fire and your enemy also has ecm.

J is the default for toggling ecm from disrupt to counter. There really is no way to tell aside from reading the bottom right of screen. Will tell you if on disrupt or counter. You no doubt will not need to use counter unless using streaks or assisting lrm boats from being ecm disrupted. For the most part you want to remain on disrupt as to stay hidden from the enemies radar.

Oh...and this (below)...

The 5D is my go to Scout mech, despite the small number of weapons. When you add the ECM to its small size you can be next to invisible with some practice.

Add me to your VIP/friend list in game. I will be glad to walk you through using that little dangerous fellow. I am usually on at nights for 7-8 hours.

Or I will add you as soon as I get home. (I am at work now)

My 5D is set up as a LRM support mech, with:
ECM
BAP
TAG
med pulse laser
med laser
245XL doing 145.5 w/ speed tweak
Modules:
Capture Accelerator
Seismic Sensor
Target Info Gathering (25% less time to acquire info about a target)

I provide ECM cover for the LRM mech's when close, and keep lite mech's off of them, and do a ECM counter (J) when a Lite that gets close has ECM, so the LRM's can hit them......
And some times I scout out long range to find hidden mechs, and sneek up to a flank, or behind them as far away as i can from them (750M for TAG), and TAG them so the LRM's can hit them, even when they are behind most kinds of cover......

Sneek up behind a Lone Atlas that has ECM, Lock him, and then Hit counter, and then the LRM mech's can see him, and then the tag makes every missle hit him, while I am shooting him in the butt......... I get a few kills doing this......
