The biggest problem with the roads in Australia, is that the roads kill more people every year. And like my ride last night to the beach and back, the one of the biggest concern for road accidents is caused by the wildlife...

So... if figured... I would put a story to it...

Posted Image

"The problems for scout mech on some planets is that the indigenous wildlife is enough to cause serious damage at high speeds. There has been stories from the outer rim where the clanners who use Elemantals often get prayed upon when stray out alone by carnivorous pack beast.

Then again, sometimes..."

"The major cause for distraction in the heat of the battle is usually a neutral target gets in the way. Doesn't mean this is cause for alarm. Usually moments like this after a hard battle is celebrated with alot of cheering, alcohol and a BBQ all around"

and finally... (younger children may want to avert their eyes)
WARNING**** a bit graphic below****

Posted Image

"Although he or she may be a victor of the battle, the pilot is not always welcomed with appraisal on return, especially from their crew, who not only have to make general repairs on the mech, but also pick and clean any trophies that came with the kill."

"Sadly many pilot have lost their mechs to damage, or their own lives. From miscalculating that running through a herd of wilderbeast, or scouting through a savage jungle lead to their own demise. Often having furry critters running loose around a city, is more protective than having a big wall, with a surrounding tar pit, and LRM & ER PPC turrets"

If anyone can elaborate on this... Please it would take something serious which everyone ignores, and turns it into a joke which everyone wants to perpetuate.

Greetings all,

I don't think the OP has calculated the size of mech's and the pounding on the ground they make when moving. Most Earth like sized creatures remove themselves from the area well before a large stomping element is present. Although seeing a herd of some snow type animal on "Alpine", from a distance would be hilarious and add to the feeling of large open area's. Even to see some bird type flocks fly overhead would add ambience to the now rather dead environment.

But you are correct, we need some type of atmosphere and the addition of scattered wildlife might be just what the doctor ordered. Imagine scanning along the "Alpine" map and you see movement along a ridge or crest, thinking it to be a raven or spider, you take your shot, only to have that target turn out to be large local fauna. Ok target Id will be key here now, but this would add to the game play.

Them Aussies with there "Shelia's" everywhere, that would be a problem.

Later,
9erRed

Dunno bout in other places - but up here in Alaska, we sometimes get roadkill that is still in good enough shape to still eat.
(takes a lot to really maul a moose....)

Anyways, big point being - saw the OP and thought - welp maybe they've got dinner covered then. ;)

I think I found the proper wildlife for Alpine...

In Pennsylvania, it would only be a change to get some fresh meat. Just get rid of the damage areas and fresh road kill.

In Germany you would have a mixture of pulverized bones and a soup of flesh, because you hit the deer with 260 KM/h (160 Miles)

I missed one years ago between Between Nuremberg Airport and Erlangen.

It made me think of 35 mph on a dirt road having a deer run into the side of the truck.

Maybe have a picture of a mech with its side harpooned. And and broken antler hanging from its leg.

My dad catched a little bunny with his Mercedes on the Autobahn, while travelling with 140mp/h.
The little buddy destroyed the whole front, he needed a new bodykit and a new radiator.

Just Imagine hitting a deer or a cow at that speed, scary...

Branth have been known to attack light 'Mechs and cause serious damage. As a flying species they are not really much of a collision hazard. Various megasaur species can not only be collision hazards, but also potential active threats to a 'Mech.

I like the idea of with a scout mech, sneaky amongst a heard of a thousand or so wilderbeast, then startle them causing a stampede toward the enemy. Then sit back and take pot shots at the enemy as he tries desparately to avoid the stampede.
