That's pretty debatable. In the so-called "AC meta" going on now, close combat actually happens more than once in a blue moon, and mechs do on average survive longer (although perhaps still not long enough). You can also get away with sub-optimal builds a lot easier than you could during the reign of PPCs (because you don't get alpha'd to death as fast).

Addendum: The invuln spider army is a random counter to the AC meta that does work well. But can also backfire horribly (SSRM)

I wouldn't really count the AC/2 as part of the meta. It's kinda meh right now.

That's what happens in every meta. In a world of no-respawn, taking out one or more enemy mechs is prone to causing "snowball" effects a large amount of the time. Dat momentum.

Well, my own antedote is that those drawn out games happen more often these days, partly due to the fact that ACs tend to not be as frontloaded in their damage as PPCs (mainly the smaller ACs), and the larger ACs are harder to boat than PPCs.

Most PPC jumpsnipers technically use a mixture of PPCs and AC/s these days.
