And there I was, with newly purchased Heavy Metal 2 minutes before the sale was announced and servers went down. Oh well.

Great sale.

Now I'm stuck deciding between the DS or HM. If you could only choose one, which would you choose to buy?

PRO TIP ALERT

The sales go in a pattern and heroes are around mid month, look back at the previous announcements and you'll know what type of sale to expect each week(colors, champions, premium time). So like previously stated if your thinking of buying a hero mech and it's the middle of the month wait until the sale is announced on Friday.

I'm struggling with the same question Arkadash.

They once spoke about implementing Steam-fashion instant sales with UI 2.0, so that might be possible. All in all, Hero mechs sales are always more than welcome. Right now I'm puzzled as what to take, Protector or Dragon Slayer, since they are similar hardpoint-wise and I don't have experience around Orions and Victors. What do you guys say?

Dragon slayer, no discussion.

Already own Heavy Metal and Protector, but will never ever buy the Golden Buy. I am tempted by the Dragon Slayer, though - can anyone recommend on him?

PGI PGI would you consider unnerfing Golden Boy engine cap. atm it's that bad (mostly because that engine cap) that 1st time anyone even mentioned this mech which is on sale, to say he will never buy golden boy, because it's so bad atm...
people used to say TDK is bad mech but I see ~10000% more of those in battlefield than Golden Boys.

Definitely buying the Dragon Slayer to round out my Victor collection, but I don't own any KTO or ON. Hmmm.

You do realize that it's not a "Pick one of three" sale, right? ;)

Always buy stuff on Saturday. The sale will be active by then, and you'll know what's there and what's not.

I'm sure he knows. But not all of us are completely loaded with money. I actually just bounced my bank account to snag the two Heavy Metal clones (Dragon Slayer and Protector = lighter, faster versions of the HM. Identical weapon hardpoints just in slightly different arrangements). Though bouncing for me isn't bad, it's a 3 dollar transfer fee from savings to checking.

Yes, I know.

However, if I buy a Protector, then I have to buy two more Orions, likewise the Golden Boy and KTOs.
It's not the money, it's the commitment. (I convinced my wife this is like cable TV. I can throw $50 in the till fairly regularly.)

not sure if i want to pick up more than that just yet....

Premium time is too tempting to play more.

To bad I would have to buy a mech bay first, and If I did I'd be short to buy the Protector by about 37MC. Might want to look into fixing that. No More $ for you MWO untill you get out of Arcade mode.

You'll probably like the DS better.

I am a Highlander fan so HM.

I would have bought the Golden Boy on this sale but I have 6 more mediums coming next month.

I know right, they should have at least put the camo greens, tans, browns or whatever on sale too.

Heavymetal was my fave until the Gauss nerf, and nerf it was. Still a good mech.

The Dragon Slayer will probably hold up better. If you liked the 9K, then the DS is an "upgrade" over it.

Although, it begs the question why the 9K is crippled by design.

The DS loses a bit of convergence for better power (yes, 3 PPCs). That should cover most of the differences.

The Heavy Metal is kinda unique, except I like the 732 better (you can fit 3 PPCs in it, the HM cannot). If you like the Victor styled hardpoints over the Highlander's preference to have weapons on just the right side of the mech, then there's your option.
