Now I know what a lot of you are thinking, oh ya another gauss rifle sniper, but eff that noise, this is a brawler. I do my best work at medium range, ducking in and out of cover and concealment. This causes a lot of pilots to run up on you, where the medium lasers and SRM come in.
I run the gauss rifle in 1, the LB 10X in 2, and the MLs and SRM in 3/4. I only use the lasers and SRM in close range, the LB 10-X in close to medium range, and the gauss at long range only until I close the distance. I never sit back and snipe with the gauss, as its wastes this mechs potential. Because it has the 255 XL you can move at decent speed and ambush from close range.
You'll notice a particular cadence or rhythm when you get rocking. The LB10 blasts off, just as the gauss round is loaded, you let that thing rock and run the MLs and SRM, just as the LB 10 comes back online to repeat the process. Its a wonderful pattern and you know you are maxing your damage when you feel it.
The LB 10 has a particular versatility to it that suits well this mech. It still does damage at decent range, so I use it to keep enemy heads down while I move in on them. The impact is intimidating. Once close in I let them have it, but keep moving. This mech is particularly well-suited against medium to assault mechs. It can deal with lights but they are a giant pain in the ***.
Remember, use that LB 10 to blast off pop-shots while you maneuver for a good gauss hit and remember to get CLOSE! You don't have any AMS so stay concealed as you move. Master the cadence and plan your gauss shots for enemies you can see getting ready to come out from behind cover. Lastly, make it your mission to run out of ammo. Both 1k games I had, I didn't realize how well I was doing until I heard "gauss ammo 25%, LB-10 ammo 25%." Then I knew I'd dealt a lot of damage. A good game for me is above 700. An average is around 500. I feel silly coming in at 399 or less.
Good luck.
